Show I flew Truck Design ! In GMC Reminds ! Of Paris Models What French dress designers have done for the world of fash-I fash-I ions, GMC is doing for the world of wheels. Although it may seem incongruous incon-gruous to compare dress stylists with a truck manufacturing company, com-pany, the finished product of both has much in common. Take a high fashion Parisian gown. Its beauty lies in its originality, stylish lines and dramatic blend of colors. This formula might well apply to the 1955 trucks built by GMC Truck & Coach division. They are smart, modernistically styled and colorful. color-ful. The comparison can be carried further. Without overtaxing the imagination, the shiny chrome grille and streamlined front end of the new trucks could be compared com-pared with the neckline ornamentation ornamen-tation of a freshly styled gown. v This "Speedline Styled" front end, with bomb-type bumper guards, gives the GMC's handsome passenger car styling. The famed "GMC" emblem, like a sparkling necklace, rests on a "Jet-stream Airscoop" located a few inches above the grille-work. The body style has the same sveeping lines as a beautiful evening eve-ning gown. Fenders flow back smoothly and blend into the door. The doors conceal the running boards and protect them from snow and slush. A lower cowl and hood, enhanced by a louvered opening for a new-type ventilating system, carry out the low silhouette" silhou-ette" theme. Cap-like peaks over the headlights and windshield join forward-tilted door pillars to give the trucks a jaunty air. That this year's line of GMC's compares favorably with a Paris "original" is borne out even further fur-ther by the lower, wider, yet roomier cabs. "Picture-window visibility vis-ibility is provided by a large panoramic pan-oramic windshield, and an optional option-al wrap-around rear window eliminates elim-inates all "blind" spots. Although the cab is lower, interior in-terior headroom is greater due to a new roof design, which includes, among other advances, internal wiring that permits a mechanic to install a radio speaker or corner cab lights in a matter of minutes. An "Aero-view" instrument cluster, clus-ter, positioned so the driver can see every dial clearly through the upper half of the three-spoke steering wheel, adds another luxurious lux-urious note. The recessed instrument instru-ment panel has a non-glare covering cover-ing that will not reflect blinding sunlight. Foam rubber cushions, adjustable adjust-able seat backs, newly designed ashtrays and heater controls, and more leg-room are among the other oth-er features of the new GMC "Blue Chip" trucks. Like a dress designer, GMC stylists did not overlook the tiniest tin-iest details in harmonious design. Even paint colors were reviewed so two-tone interior color schemes would blend perfectly ' with exterior ex-terior colors. A total of 13 colors, including eight fashionable two-tone two-tone exterior combinations, are available. Colors range from Seminole Sem-inole Brown to Panama Cream. Without sacrificing the beauty of smooth, clean lines, designers embodied in the new pickups two auxiliary utilitarian loading step- ups just behind the cab of the pickup. Leading the way in truck styling styl-ing is a strong GMC policy. For GMC, like a fashion-setting dress stylist, is interested in giving the customer the most beautiful and the most stylish product possible. |
