Show These Happy Kids Caught A Banded Owl K J: Kf , - . .. . A couple of weeks ago Jesse and Ronald Phillips and DeVere and Lynn Wilkerson (lefi to right), were playing near the sand gales on the Alma Wills' farm when they ran across an owl, which through injury, was unable to fly. . , The kids caught the bird that is held by Ronald, and discovered it had a band on one leg. , , They brought the owl to the Standard office where a picture was taken. The band directed who ever caught said Mr. Owl to notify the Fish & Wildlife Commission in Washington. . . . Contacts were made with the game wardens, and finally Merlin L. Killpack, local authority on Bird Life, and high school instructor, solved the problem It was he who had banded the Owl a few months earlier and turned him loose. As the result of these boys finding the owl, which incidenlly died the day after the photo was taken, Mr. Killpack has written a.i article on "Banding Migratory Birds," which appears in this issue of the Roosevelt Standard. . .
