Show School Board Sells Aitonah School ToLDSV'ard Group The Duchesne county school board at their last meeting unanimously unan-imously confirmed the sale of jthe former Aitonah high school j building to the Aitonah ward, 'Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, according to Dean C. Christensen, superintendent superin-tendent of schools. The unanimous decision was reached after the board had been notified by Dr. Allen Bate-man, Bate-man, state superintendent of public instruction, that the sale, based on a 3 to 2 vote did not constitute the legal two-thirds majority needed to validate the sale. The old frame building, no longer needed as a high school, was sold to the ward for $400, with $200 down. Aitonah post, American Legion, had offered I $400 cash. A controversy over sale of the school building arose when Aitonah Ai-tonah ward and Aitonah post, American Legion, each made known a desire to obtain two rooms of the structure. School board members asked the two parties to work out an arrangement to buy the school and make two rooms available to the other. When the ward and post failed to agree, the matter was placed in the hands of the school board, which then voted to sell the building to the ward. |
