Show A City Project .... Tolio Queen7 Will Be Named Here Who will be named Roosevelt's Roose-velt's "Polio Queen?" According to Mrs. Anthon Christensen, city chairman of the . March of Dimes campaign, each club in the city has been contacted to name an honorary polio mother, -whose name and picture "will appear "on a poster in some business house, and at the climax of the drive on January Jan-uary 31, the mother having the most money contributed in her name during the Porchlight Parade Pa-rade will be named Roosevelt's "Polio Queen" for 1952. Because it is the mother who has the responsibility and care of her child if he is stricken, with infantile paralysis, the local lo-cal committee felt, that the mothers should be recognized and honored. Each club has the privilege of naming a mother, with a donation from the club of $5 or more to the polio fund. The campaign got off to an enthusiastic start this morning, when the dime cans and posters were distributed and. placed in every business house in town by the following workers: M.-s. Clem Labrum. Mrs. Louis Taylor, Tay-lor, Mrs. Ned Bellon, Mrs. La-Vere La-Vere Labrum, Mrs. Elmer El-dredge, El-dredge, Mrs. Cliff Memmott and Miss Joyce Rogers. The public is urged to again support the campaign, which may benefit many in this community. com-munity. The dread polio disease strikes anywhere and anyone, and your money may come back to you sooner than you think. With the National Foundation $6 million in debt, everyone is urged to contribute. The city chairman is not asking for large donations, but asks that each person sacrifice some entertainment entertain-ment and give the cost to polio. The climax of the campaign will be the Mothers' Porchlight Parade, proclaimed by the may or between the hours of 6:30 and 7:30 p. m. Thursday, Jan 31, when everyone wishing to contribute to the worthy cause will signify so by turning on the porch light,' or placing some kind of light or" lantern in the window. Mothers appointed to collect the contributions .will then call at the homes. The polio hour proclaimed by Mayor Homer P. Edwards will be signified by the blowing of sirens and the ringing of the Baptist Church bell. This will indicate that polio workers will be calling for your contributions. contribu-tions. Help one of the mothers being sponsored by a local club to become be-come Roosevelt's "Polio Queen" by submitting your votes for her. She will be erowned "Queen" at 8 p. m. by the mayor. |
