Show State Road Action Is Upheld By Civic Group Directors of the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce Tuesday passed a resolution that will be mailed to the members of the State Road Commission of Utah in which they commended them in recommending Highway 50-6 to the Bureau of Roads of the United States to be designated as the interstate highway between Denver and Salt Lake City. Some other communities .in the Uintah Basin were backing Highway 40. Presiding at the noon meeting . of the Chamber was Kenneth Ay- cock, vice-president, who urged Roosevelt to take a stand either . supporting Highway 40, or upholding up-holding the road commission, who ; last Thursday unanimously voted in favor , of 50-6. After considerable consider-able discussion, the direcors voted to have their president, Dr. R. V. Larson and executive secretary, Mrs. Irene Rupple, draft a Letter to the board approving their Aug. 9th action. Quoted Governor Lee Governor J. Bracken Lee's UBIC address was refered to in which he said, "Thursday's action of the State Road' Commission could easily be a blessing in disguise to the people living along Highway 40."; He suggested funds that had been designated to 50-6 definitely would not be spent there, but could be diverted to Highway 40, and this road brought up to a high standard. Another argument favoring the resolution was that the present road would' almost certainly not by-pass cities along Continued on Back Page) STATE ROAD ACTION (Continued From Page 1) the route, but would remain pretty much where it now exists. T. V. Subject Discussed E. A. Call, chairman of the T. V. committee, reported that a company com-pany from Salt Lake City would bring television to Roosevelt for $3,000. No action was taken as a group, except the committee was urged to make a more complete study of TV and ' be prepared to make recommendations later. Announcement of a special Upper Up-per Colorado River meeting that is being called in Salt Lake on Aug. 29, was made by Bennie Schmiett, chairman of that committee. com-mittee. The directors voted to send a delegation to the meeting and asked Mr. Schmiett to select a group to attend. Voted by the directors was a joint meeting with Vernal in about two weeks, subject to an -invitation from Vernal to meet with them. |
