Show Independence Day Observed With Program & Sports Independence Day was celebrated cele-brated in Neola with two rodeos, ro-deos, a parade and a program. Presiding over the morning of July 4th was Miss Myrth Davis, as Goddess of Liberty, with Karen Crow and Erldene Dye as attendants. The program was under the direction of Tal and Phyllis Wardle. with Tal acting as master of ceremonies. Appropriate numbers were- presented, pre-sented, with W. K. Dye giving the oration. The ward chapel was beautifully decoTated in the national colors, under the direction di-rection of Lois Leavitt. The evening of the third and afternoon of the Fourth were devoted to rodeos, with the Basin Rangers in charge. Nine-year-old Connie Oberhansly was Queen, and with her young attendants, at-tendants, Pam Bastian and Lorraine Lor-raine Oberhansly, drew admir-' admir-' ing applause for their horsemanship. horseman-ship. The usual thrills and spills accompanied the rodeo perfor; mers, while floats from various local organizations and the Basin Bas-in Rangers on their mounts, formed a parade. Many former residents of Neola attended to" enjoy both the celebration and to greet old friends. DUNCAN FAMILY HAS GET-TO-GETHER Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren filled the house of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Duncan to overflowing, and spilled out on the lawn, as mem. bers of the Duncan family met here on July 4th. List of families fam-ilies included: Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Iv-an Duncan. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. McNeil Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Duncan and their families, all of Neola; Mr. and Mrs. James Mecham and two grandchilden, Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Mecham and two children, of Orem; the Nolan No-lan Mecham family, of Sunny-side; Sunny-side; Mr. and Mrs. Burt Bacon and family, of Kuna, Idaho, and from Salt Lake City came Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mecham and Edwin Ed-win Duncan. Visitors at the Art Mitchell home the past week include Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bingham, Howard and Carl Mitchell," of Salt Lake City. Hosts and guests left Sunday for a fishing trip to the Lakes region. Ronald Zirker, of Moses Lake, Wash., was a Neola visitor last Wedneday. Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Nelson, former Neola residents, arei back again to spend the summer j months in the shady retreat of their son's home here, and to reminisce with old friends. From Houston, Texas, cams Mr. and Mrs. Mac Norman, Mr. and Mrs. James Horrocks and their sons, Richard and Jimmy, to celebrate July 4th at Neola, and. for the Normans, to marvel mar-vel at the wonders of the mountains, moun-tains, which they were seeing for the first time. During their stay, they were guests at the Theron Horrocks home. California-bound is Marilyn Peterson, who will spend the balance of the summer with her aunt, Mrs. Thelma Jesson, of Richmond, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. "Warden Olsen, of Morgan, are spending a few weeks here with relatives. Trying their luck at fishing in the Lakes vicinity were; Alfred Al-fred Harrison, of Price; Francis Harrison, of Roosevelt, and Marion Mar-ion Harrison. The three men are brothers. Oluf Duncan was also a member of the group. Mr. and Mrs. Arzy Mitchell, of Duchesne, visited at the D. F. Mitchell home last riday. SPENCERS HAVE-WEEKEND HAVE-WEEKEND GUESTS The home of Mr. and Mrs. Deone Spencer was filled with love and good-fellowship the past weekend, as their two daughters and their husbands, their son and several relatives came for a brief visit. Enjoying their hospitality were: Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Beck, of Mt. Pleasant; Plea-sant; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Erick-son, Erick-son, of Payson; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Seeley, Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Jenkins and Franklin Frank-lin Spencer, of Rawlings. Wyo.; and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Morrill, of Oxword, Calif. FAMILY REUNION The eleven children of Roger Horrocks, former Neola resident, resi-dent, along with their families, met at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City last Sunday for a family reunion. Attending from Neola were: Mr. and Mrs. La-Vell La-Vell Horrocks and Mr. and Mrs. Theron Horrocks. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Knowles of Ogden, spent the weekend here, looking over their recently recent-ly acquired property. They plan on moving to their new home,, the former LaZell Henrie farm, some time this fall. Ira A. Pace made a business trip to Salt Lake City last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Wamsley, of Phoenix, Ariz, are spending a few days here at the Oluf Duncan home. Mr. and Mrs. Berle Bell and son, of Vernal, have been visiting visit-ing at the Royal Horrocks home. Mr. Bell has been convalescing here since his recent operation. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Horrocks and family, of Salt Lake City, spent the weekend here at the LaVell Horrocks home. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Malnar, of Salt Lake City, visited here for a few days. Visitors at the Neill Jensen home last Sunday were Reid Hall, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mary Hall, of American Fork. They are father and sister of Mrs. Jensen. Mrs. Ada Hutcheon and two sons, of Salt Lake City, visited here over the weekend. UBIC TALENT SHOW The annual talent show of the U.B.I.C. will be held July 20th in the Neola chapel. Anyone Any-one interested in competing should get in touch with Phyllis Wardle or Lillian Wilkerson. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Harris and son, of Ogden. are guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Horrocks and son, of Salt Lake City, spent Monday and Tuesday here. |
