Show This Week's RECIPE . . . Old Fashioned Baked Beans are a must in most households, and the following recipe submitted sub-mitted by Mrs. Melvin Peterson is one of her favorites. Beans may be more highly seasoned if desired. BAKED BEANS Soak 4 lbs. navy beans in salt and soda water over night. Drain and cover with water. Simmer 1 hour with a ham hock and a medium sized onion, cut fine. Remove hock from beans and cut off ham in small pieces. Add to beans. Add: 1 pint tomato juice V bottle catsup V pint chili sauce 1 cup brown suear (more if desired) V6 cup vinegar Vi cup molasses V4 heaping teaspoon dry mustard mus-tard Mix well and place in greased baking dish or roaster and bake covered approximately 6 hours or until beans are done, in very slow oven (about 275 deg.) Remove cover the last 20 minutes min-utes and place strips of bacon on beans to brown. |
