Show U Library Speeds Microfilming Of Utah Weeklies I Complete files of alL available Utah newspapers soon will be stored in the University of Utah library according to L. H. Kirk-patrick, Kirk-patrick, University librarian. "With our recent completion of the microfilming of all copies of the Vernal Express since 1891 we have taken another step toward that goal," Mr. Kilpat-rick Kilpat-rick said. We are now filming the Brigham City papers." Other papers which have been microfilmed include the Manti Messenger, Wasatch Wave Eph-raim Eph-raim Enterprise, Mt. Pleasant Pyramid, Park City Record, and the Provo Herald, j The library- also microfilmed all available copies of many newspapers now in existence- including in-cluding the Beaver Blade, Beaver Bea-ver Utonian, Manti Sentinel, Murray Argus, Coalville Courier, Cour-ier, Kamas Pairie Courier, Cor-ine Cor-ine Daily Reporter and Nephi Ensign. "Most of these papers have been in existence about 40 years," Mr. Kirkpatrick said. "We can get the entire file of such a newspaper into a single drawer of a microfilm cabinet,! which is a tremendous saving in space." j A further reason for the mic-! rofilming, he explained, is the fact that newsprint diseftte-grates diseftte-grates after a number of years. "Unless microfilmed, these valuable val-uable historical records would be lost forever," Mr. Kirkpatrick Kirkpat-rick said. "In many cases the only existing volumes are being kept in non-fireproof buildings." |
