Show "News Bits About Yester-Years" 5 Years Ago The first half of official play in District 5, scholastic basketball basket-ball league ended last Friday with Roosevelt on top of the pile by virtue of five wins and no losses. Again last Friday night, Tab-iona Tab-iona rose up in the closing half of the encounter to seriously threaten the Roosevelt lead. From a 17-4 difference at the end of the first quarter, Tab-iona Tab-iona banged away furiously until un-til the whistle ended the tussle at a score of 44-36 for Roosevelt. Van Tassel of Tabiona, led the field with 14 points, Mc-Kenna, Mc-Kenna, Roosevelt center, followed follow-ed with 11. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. . Bodily and Gwen and Afton, went to Salt Lake Sunday to be present at the marriage of Vahl W. Bodily and Miss Mary Jackson, daughter of Mr. J. W. Jackson of Salt Lake City. Bernell A. Buchanan, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Buchanan, arrived in Roosevelt Feb. 4, to spend a week with his parents before returning to San Antonio' Texas, where he is stationed with the Army Air Force. 10 Years Ago The annual meeting and election el-ection of the Moon Lake Electric Association scheduled for Sat-urday,Feb. Sat-urday,Feb. 5, at Mt. Emmons, was held. The same officers were held over for the vear 1944 as follows: S. K. Daniels, president; Henry A. Warthen, Bluebell, vice-president; El Ray D. Larsen, Talmage, secretary; C. H. Hart-man Hart-man Mt. Emmons, treasurer. Lester Swain son of Mrs. Pearl Swain, and husband of Melba Gardner Swain, is stationed sta-tioned at Camp Carson, Colo. Lester has been in the - Army fourteen months. Bernell Swain, another son of Mrs. Swain is stationed at Far-ragut, Far-ragut, and LLlburn Swain, who has just finished his 'boot' training train-ing at Farragut, Idaho,, accompanied ac-companied his family' from Provo and- is spending a few days furlough at home. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Harms-ton Harms-ton left here Wednesday for Louisville, Kentucky, where they will visit with their son, Staff Sgt. Lee Harmston, wife and young baby. 20 Years Ago The new Chevrolet and General Gen-eral Motors line of cars will be handled in Roosevelt and its trade territory by Ray G. Lab-rum Lab-rum and Sons, under the company comp-any heading of Labrum Chevrolet Chev-rolet Company. The Roosevelt High School student body entertained the Uintah High student body at Vernal Friday afternoon. Among the Roosevelt people who went over were Mr. and Mrs. Dan Allen, Mrs. Homer P. Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Prior, besides a number of the high school faculty. The monthly banquet of the Business and Professional Women's Wo-men's Club of Roosevelt was held Wednesday evening at the Naylor Hotel at Gusher, with Mrs. Myrtle Lambert as hostess. Carrol, the small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Birch, who was operated upon recently for appendicitis at Vernal, was brought home Monday by her mother. She is getting along splendidly. |
