Show Proof Required Of Farmers Who Expect To Build IVater Ponds; Must File And Publish All Applications All farmers and ranchers expecting ex-pecting to build ponds to store irrigation water or stock water this year must show proof of an approved storage filing with the office of the state engineer before construction begins Don Nielson, Unit Conservationist with the Soil Conservation Service, Ser-vice, announced today. Don pointed out that it has been the farmers' responsibility to comply with the State law as regards to filing applications for rights to divert water for irrigation or storage. Only a few farmers and ranchers have followed up the construction of their ponds with the proper filing with the State engineer's office. All requests for help from the Agricultural Conservation Program, The Uintah Basin Soil Conservation District and The Soil Conservation Service must show conclusive evidence that a filing has been approved by the State Engineer's Office before the help can be made available, Don said. Those farmers and ranchers who have built ponds in the past must file an application before the end of 1955. To keep others from filing on his pond each farmer can protest his investment by complying with the law now. Write the State Engineer's Office for the proper blank. In most cases the cost will be $2.50 for a filing fee and $15 to $20 for publishing in a local paper before approval is given. For information in regard to your pond filing call at your Soil Conservation Service Office. Of-fice. Ask for Grant Parrish at Vernal, Don Nielson, Roosevelt, or John Strang, Duchesne.
