Show UTAH STATU EXTENSION SERVICE ACUICULTl'RR HOMS ECONOMIC By Mary Lou Reichert Home Demonstration Agent Are you feeding your family the way they should be fed? That is, are you planning your meals so that your family is getting an adequate diet? One way to be sure to get the proper nutrients is to follow the Daily Dietary Pattern which has been established by the Foods and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council. The Daily Dietry Pattern states that to be well-fed, the following foods should be eaten daily: Milk, 1 quart for children, chil-dren, 3 or more cups for adults; Eggs, one daily for childlren, 3-5 3-5 a week for adults; Meat, 1 serving daily, 4 ounces; Vegetables: Vege-tables: 2 servings (V4 - cups each serving). Serve 1 green leafy or yellow vegetable daily; Potatoes: 1 or more servings (V2 - 3A cup or a small potato); Fruit: 2 servings, 1 of which should be citrus or tomato; Butter But-ter or fortified margarine: 1 - 4 tablespoons; Cereal and breads: 3 or more servings; Other foods: Include adidtional servings of above foods, desserts, fats, sug- ars, and beverages to make up the necessary calories; Cod liver liv-er oil, or -other fish oil concentrates' concen-trates' for vitamin D, especially for children; Water: 6 - 8 glasses glass-es for adults, 4 - 6 for children. If you include all of these foods In your diet each day, you can be sure, under normal conditions, condi-tions, that you will be having an adequate diet. If you include all these and want more to eat, and can stand the extra calories, calor-ies, then you can indulge in more desserts, etc. As long as your weight is normal you don't have to worry too much about calories and you can "eat what you want after you have eaten what you should. , ' -oOo- 4-H programs are again be-gining be-gining to grow la the county. Anyone interested in leading or joining a club is invited to contact con-tact the Extension office in the Frandsen building. At the present pres-ent time, we are looking for leaders to attend a 4-H Leaders Training school at Logan from February 22 to 28. Part of the expenses will be paid. If you are interested in attending this school, and then leading a 4-H Club this summer, please con-tac con-tac the county ageent or the home agent. -oOo- Have you tried the new sponge mops that are now on the market? They are an excellent ex-cellent "energy saver" to the homemaker. The sponge can be replaced at a minmum cost after af-ter it has worn out. One company com-pany has even put a small row of bristles on the mop for those "sticky" places on the linoleum. These mops are also very handy for washing walls, ceilings and windows. ' |
