Show Walter Granger Will Seek Senate Seat In loveitifeer Election; las Been Congressman Fourteen Years Walter K. Granger, senior member of Utah's congressional delegation, and former speaker of the Utah House of Representatives, Repre-sentatives, today announced he will seek the Democratic nom- !of the rights of labor, a strong educational program and the extension of the benefits of social so-cial security. He is the first Utahn to achieve the distinction of being elected to the most powerful committee in the Congress, Con-gress, the Ways and Means Committee, Com-mittee, and prior to that he served on the Agriculture Committee, Com-mittee, which handles legislation legisla-tion which is so important to the economy of the West. Mr. Granger has sponsored and promoted many bills of importance im-portance to this state and to the west. Among those measures are the Granger Thye Act providing pro-viding for the preservation and rehabilitation of the national and private forests, and the amendment to the Revenue Act extending the benefits of capital gains provisions to livestock industry of the country, according accord-ing to Congressman Granger. Legislation supported by him has been of particular benefit to the sugar beet industry, dairy industry, wool growers and the livestock and mining industries. In the last session of Congress, Mr. Granger was the author of legislation providing for the rehabilitation of the Ute Indians. In-dians. Mr. Granger concluded his announcement an-nouncement with the statement that "As a United States Senator Sena-tor the people may be assured that I will continue to serve the best interests of Utah and the nation." |
