Show lert Stoddard Sustained Bishop Of Avalon Ward Change Effected May 29th; Was High Councilman At a re-organization of the Avalon Av-alon ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, last Sunday evening, Edgar Bert Stoddard was sustained as bishop, replacing Ralph Durfee, who ends 24 years as a member of a bishopric. The re-organization was under the direction di-rection of Hollis G. Hullinger, president of the Roosevelt stake. Bishop Stoddard selected as his counselors Golden Bastian and Mariner McMullin, with Drayden Foster as ward clerk. Retiring with Bishop Durfee are his counselors, coun-selors, Calvin Jorgensen and La Rue Pickup, with Ward Jarman as clerk. The new bishop was released a week ago Sunday as a member of the stake high council, where he had served for six years. His special calling in the high council was chairman of the stake Genealogy Gen-ealogy committee, A farmer at Randlett, he has been a faithful worker in the church and had previously served as a bishop's counselor to Austin Wardle. Native Of Uintah A native of Uintah County, Mr. Bastian is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Golden Bastian' and formerly served a mission for the church. He and his father own a large tract of land in Ouray valley, where he and his family plan to maintain their home. Mr. McMullin has had considerable consider-able experience as a bishop's counselor, having served with Bishop Ira Wilson and Bishop Franklin Jarman in the Randlett vard. Counselor 21 Years Bishop Durfee, who served over a year as bishop of the Leota ward, was retained in that position posi-tion l2 years ago when the Leota Leo-ta and Randlett wards were combined com-bined and the Avalon ward established. estab-lished. Before being called to preside pre-side over the Leota ward nearly three years ago, Bishop Durfee had been a counselor for 21 years, serving with Bishop I. Mr. Jorgensen was called into the bishopric as first counselor when Bishop Durfee succeeded Bishop Wardle at Leota. He continued con-tinued on in the Avalon ward. Mr. Pickup was a counselor to three bishops.
