Show Fire Underwriter Official Talks To Iroup On Zoning Problems; Urges City To Deny Oil Tanks In Area At a special P T.A. meeting called last Thursday evening at the Roosevelt elementary chool, Arthur A. Ross, Salt Lake City, district engineer of the Board of Fire Underwriters of the State of Utah, offered information in-formation and facts concerning ordinances and recommendations regarding erection of bulk oil : and gasoline tanks in the city. He stated that Roosevelt, like any other city that is developing, develop-ing, is experiencing growing-' pains, which naturally involve building problems. Mr. Ross recommended that ordinances be made by the city officials to take care of industrial, indus-trial, mercantile and residential zoning and that no storage tanks aoove ground be permitted in ihe mercantile zone or any congested con-gested area. He suggested that the city comply with the point regulation regula-tion system, which in the event of erection of such storage tanks, would place so many merit ouits against the city, and in due time, with the increase of the demerit points, would naturally na-turally raise everyone's fire insurance. in-surance. Mr. Ross also informed the group that tanks erected within 100 feet of homes or other structures struc-tures would raise the fire insurance in-surance on those, specific homes or structures. Mr. Ross was contacted to attend at-tend the meeting by the P.T.A., whose chief interest was to find out, if possible, if there would be any danger in erecting bulk plants within 225 feet of the elementary school. Attorney Clyde S. Johnson, of Vernal, spoke to the group in the interest of property owners, own-ers, who are definitely against erection of a bulk plant considered con-sidered by Wasatch - Southern Oil Company. Several representatives of oil companies were present and voiced opinions . in the matter, as. well as school board .representatives .repre-sentatives and city officials. . Following the discussion it was suggested that the city council weigh the information and recommendations heard be--fore making their final decision on the erection ..of the bulk -plant now seeking" a permit in the city. : Mrs. Ned Bellon.
