Show Russian Knapweed Control In County Attempted Experimental plots on Russian Knapweed control in Duchesne County' are receiving1 a great deal of attention, reports Louis A. Jensen, Duchesne County Agent. Ag-ent. These plots are located on the Duchesne County Weed Experimental Ex-perimental Farm four miles southwest of Roosevelt. The experiment ex-periment has been conducted only two years; therefore, final conclusions cannot be drawn, the county agent said. In the way of a progress e-port. e-port. the county agent lists what treatments are showing promise of results and those which do not indicate results at the present pres-ent time. Two soil sterilants have been tried Atlacide, at the rate of 8 lbs. per square rod . appears to be giving control; Borascu at the rate of 10 lbs. per square rod, and of 16 pounds per square rod has not given much kill as yet. Mr. Jensen said. 2-4D and 245-T have not shown satisfactory satisfac-tory results. In one set of plots," the effect of competing crops is being tried. On the plots where a good stand of alfalfa was obtained the weed is being held down to the extent that it appears it may even be crowded out in time. It is planned to do some experimenting ex-perimenting by spraying 2-4D in the plots of pasture grasses, us-1 ing a solution of 2-4D strong enough to help control the weed, but weak enough so that it will not harm the grasses. Plans were made for spraying the chemical plots again this year with the same treatment thev received a year ago. At the invitation of the noxious nox-ious weed control committee, representatives of chemical companies com-panies continued experiments by applying chemical to the same plots at last year. Additional small plots, using two new chemicals were sprayed. |
