Show Large Crowd Fills Church For Scout Court Of Honor Highlight of the Roosevelt Dis--trict Boy Scout week celebration, 210 persons were present for the monthly District Court of Honor held last Sunday, Feb. 12, at the LDS stake house under the direction direc-tion of Darrell Atkinson, member of the advancement committee.. A near record of 144 badges we're presented the Scouts of six troops and Explorers of three posts. The largest number of badges ever givefi at a monthly Roosevelt District Court of Honor was 155 presented at the 1955 High Uinta Scout Camp. Top honor in the advancement contest went to Montwel, Troop 262, in the Boy Scout division, and to Post 2750 Roosevelt Third ward, in the Explorer division. In second place was Troop 253 Myton, and Post 2251 Roosevelt ward. Troop 270 Neola, and Post 2253 Myton took third' honors. Badges presented Sunday included includ-ed ten Second Class, eight First Class, two Star, five Life, one Eagle Palm, five Apprentice, two Bronze, six ratings, and 105 merit badges. Cal Wilkins, Troop 751 Roosevelt Roose-velt Fourth ward, received the highest award of the Court of Honor when he received his Eagle Gold Palm. The presentation was made by Paul Murphy, vice-president of the Utah National Parks Council. Get Life Badges Life badges were presented Wil-lard Wil-lard Mathisen, LaVon Edwards, Wayne Martin and Robert Duke of Myton, Troop 253. Neil Ander-ton, Ander-ton, Post 2251 Roosevelt ward, also received his Life award. Ronald Giles and Kenneth Taylor Tay-lor of Troop 253, Myton, received their Star badges. Mpntwell, Troop 262, presented five boys for First Class badges: Lonnie Boren, Terry Larsen, Bruce Parry, Dahl Powell, and Duane Hamblin, Three First class badges were presented boys of Neola, Troop 270: Laron Wardle, David Duncan and Glenn Spencer. Aaron Pace, Michael Blanchard, ; Eric Nelson, Gary Brown, and Bruce Anderton of Montwel, Troop 262, received Second Class badges. David Hullinger, Ronald Phillips, and Randy Thompson of Troop 251, Roosevelt ward, were made Second Class Scouts. Also receiving receiv-ing the rank of Second Class were Eric Call, Troop 751 Roosevelt Fourth, and Almie Moulton, Post 2253, Myton. Explorer Apprentice awards were presented to Paul Mullins, Leon Killpack and Burke Eldredge kof Post 2750, and Roy Moulton and Dale Peterson of Myton, Post 2253. Neil Anderton, Post 2251, and Robert Hacking, Post 2750, receiver re-ceiver their Bronze award. Six Explorer ratings were presented. pre-sented. Robert Hacking received his physical fitness and vocational skills ratings; Leon Killpack his physical fitness; Paul' Mullins one for physical fitness. These young men are from Post 2750. Neil Anderton, An-derton, Post 2251, received ratings for physical fitness and vocation exploration. Allen Collins, Troop 252 Ballard, Bal-lard, received his Den Chief Chord from his scoutmaster. Von Haslem. Eight boys of Montwel Troops 262, earned a total of 15 merit badges. Lonnie Boren earned his in fingerprinting, horsemanship, and marksmanship. Bruce Anderton Ander-ton received fingerprinting and horsemanship. Dahl Powell was awarded fingerprinting and horsemanship. horse-manship. Others of Troop 262 included Duane Hamblin for fingerprinting, farm mechanics, and horsemanship; horseman-ship; Aaron Pace, Eric Nelson and Bruce Parry for horsemanship, and Terry Larsen in farm mechanics and horsemanship. 21 Merit Badges A total of 21 merit badges went to Neola, Troop 270. Home repairs merit badges were presented to: I Gary Horrocks, Cloyd Davis, Glenn Spencer, Larry LaRose, Steven Malnar, Gary LaRose, Laron War-die' War-die' and Deloy Dye. Rouel Hanrie and Kelly Crozier received one in music. David Duncan earned badges bad-ges in public speaking and horsemanship. horse-manship. Terry Bastian received one in horsemanship. Cloyd Davis, Troop 270, received re-ceived a farm mechanics merit badge,, Glenn Spencer, art; and Gordon Peterson,, safety and leatherwork. Laron Wardle earned music and horsemanship badges, while Myron Duncan received safety and animal industry badges. Charles Timothy, Explorer Post 2750, earned safety merit badge. Neil Anderton, Post 2251, received music, cooking, scholarship, wildlife wild-life management, animal industry, beef production and citizenship in community. Roosevelt Third, Troop 750. earned 19 merit badges as follows: John David Andrews for citizenship citizen-ship in the home; Louis Rawlings, for cooking, painting and home repairs; re-pairs; Steven Bellon in mechanical, drawing, painting and citizenship in the home. Dale Hansen, citizenship in the home and painting;, Scott Murdock, in world brotherhood, citizenship in the home, and soil' and water conservation; Brent Hutchings, in mechanical drawing, woodwork, and journalism; Mark Dickerson, in cooking, and' Billy Hall for cooking, mechanical drawing and citizenship in the home. Myton, Explorer Post 2253, earned earn-ed 8 merit badges: Lewis Fauset in animal industry, home repairs, woodwork, beef production, dairying dairy-ing and horsemanship; Almie Moulton, Moul-ton, for woodwork, and Bobby Allen Al-len in horsemanship. Myton Troop Rates High Myton TrooD 253. earned 34 merit badges. These were presented present-ed to 17 Scouts. The individual record is as follows: Ronald Giles, in wood carving; Kenny Ross and Floyd Neilsen, of woodwork; La-Mar La-Mar Winn, in leatherwork, woodwork, wood-work, wood carving, and home repairs; LaVon Edwards for safety, world brotherhood and fishing; Curtis Winn, in wood carving and woodwork; and Gary Young for ctizenship in the home. Newell Richens, in art; Roger Smith, in safety and woodwork; Kenneth Taylor, in citizenship in the home, wood carving and woodwork; wood-work; LaVern Young, in home repairs re-pairs and woodwork; Billy Fau-sett, Fau-sett, for corn farming, dairying and bird study. Bert Dennis earned first aid and art; Robert Duke, wildlife' management, manage-ment, citizenship in the nation, and public speaking;. Willard Mathisen, Math-isen, bird study and citizenship in the community; Wayne Martin, for scholarship; and Buddy Holgate, mechanical drawing and wildlife management. Next Court of Honor will be held March 4, 1956. |
