Mr. Humphreys Hum-phreys states: "In the interest of better meeting the needs of our high school students individually and collectively, the following things might be considered by the board of education: (1) The assignment of a person in each high school (inchiding the junior high school) with the responsibility re-sponsibility of acting as a school counselor. (Our students in many instances drift through four years of school without having any educational edu-cational or vocational goals to work toward). (2) . The assignment of all teachers teach-ers with the responsibility of seeing see-ing that a group of students assigned as-signed to them, specifically, are successful in school. This success would include studies, social behavior be-havior and individual adjustment. (3) The "gearing" of our schools' instructional program to better meet the needs of students (remedial (reme-dial reading classes, better science facilities, and better prepared English Eng-lish teachers).. (4) Because the success of many of our high school students is being be-ing affected because' they are financially fi-nancially unable to purchase books and otheT necessary school equipment, equip-ment, a system needs to be worked out whereby these students can somehow obtain needed materials at a more reasonable cost (in some instances free of charge)." |
