Out in a little farm in Utah there were three children. chil-dren. Their names were' JoJarr, Janet and Judy. They were all the same size and age, and they had never once in their lives seen a town. Now their dad went to town every morning at six o'clock, but the girls were never up at that time. But one day they did get up in time' and they did. go into town. When they got there their dad had' to leave them in the car while he went to his office, and the girl's went to sleep,' After a time, Joan awoke. She looked out and saw a funny man in a blue cowboy suit. He had a sheriff's badge on him and he was putting a piece of papeT on the car window. win-dow. Bravely she' took her toy pistol which looked like a real one and stuck it in his back. That made him go away. Then she climbed back into the car and fell asleep. She must have slept a long time but when she awoke she found herself with her sisters and her dad in an ugly room, called the clink." By Michael Finch THE GHOST The wind was whistling around the house. The day was dark and hazy, and the snow was still ankle an-kle deep. The' Larson family was sitting around the fireplace. Their mother had been reading them a story. "Mother," said Jim, "will you read another story " "Yes," replied his mother, "but I must gather the clothes first. Wait here and I will be back in." MotheT was not gone very long when they heard the door open. The children ran to meet her, but to their astonishment in came a tall, white ghost. His arms were stretched open wide. The children ran to the closet screaming and crying. "'But J-J-Jim," the' girls cried, "when m-o-other comes in the g-g-ghost will get her." Just then the closet door opened. The girls huddled into the corner of the closet, but it was only mother. "Gee, Mom," said Jim, "There was a ghost in the house!" "A ghost! Why that was your father's woolen underwear. They were frozen stiff." Then the children chil-dren laughed and laughed. The next day was their Mother's birthday, birth-day, and they had' a new clothes dryer for her so the ghost would never appear again.
