Show THE AMERICAN ' THE fcj5 ACID Morton Clausen There is no doubt about it America is at war. The "cold" war we have waged against Communist Russia during the past four years has flared into a "warm" war in Korea, where the communists are making their first break-through in an attempt to overrun the free nations na-tions of the world. Whether Russia will decide to openly enter the fray, and thus plunge us into a "hot." full-fledged Third World War, remains to be seen. If she does not, we are nevertheless to be subjected to many more serious seri-ous break-throughs around the trolled areas. This means that from now on, and perhaps for many years to come, the American economy will have to be placed on a war footing, with billions expended ex-pended for arms, supplies and man power. If a full-scale war should ensue, our expenditures and national debt will reach astronomical as-tronomical proportions. There are those who have predicted, and with good reason, reas-on, that even should America win such a war against Russia (and let there be no doubt but what we will) we shall nevertheless never-theless lose our freedom and liberties as individuals to a totalitarian to-talitarian state and ideology. Thus, even in defeat Russia will have won by destroying our American system. Among several reasons for this is the fact that from a social, so-cial, economic, political and moral standpoint America has already gone a long way toward to-ward the socialistic concepts that have sapped our strength as individuals and as a nation. We are rapidly creating the tame sort of welfare state that led to the debasement of Germany,-the enslavement of Russia Rus-sia and the disintegration of the British Empire. Although we have decried the collectivist ideology of communism, commun-ism, we have created a brand of collectivist philosophy of our own that carries within it the seed of disintegration of America Amer-ica as a nation of great material mater-ial wealth, social equality, political po-litical integrity and moral strength.
