Show Gusher Woman's Grandson Leaves For Jaycee Meet Tom Bullock, of Provo, grandson grand-son of Mrs. Al Semken, of Gusher, Gush-er, left Saturday, Feb. 25, to attend the fourth annual Jay-cees Jay-cees International conference, scheduled March 1-7 at Manila in the Philippines. He will represent the Provo Junior Chamber of Commerce at the -conference, the theme of which is "World Peace." Mr. Bullock, a World War II veteran, was captured on Cor-regidor Cor-regidor during' the Japanese occupation oc-cupation of the Philippines. Taken Tak-en prisoner May 6, 1942, he spent the next 40 months in concentration camps at Korea and Manchuria, until he was liberated at the conclusion of the war, in September, 1945. During his incarceration he was recorded as dead, and his mother, Mrs. Nora B. Bullock, received a gold star from the war department, However, when pictures of the Japanese victory march made at Corregidor appeared later in a national magazine, Mr. Bullock was recognized among the prisoners; and hope was renewed that he was alive. |
