Show Tentative Arrangements Made For Roosevelt A ucilon Yard Councilman To Hear Young Farmer A. Day Plans; Parties Iron Out Racetrack Grounds Conflict Tentative arrangements were completed Tuesday for the purchase pur-chase of ground west of Win-terton's Win-terton's ranch, on the south side of Highway 40, to be used as a construction site by the Heber Auction Yard, of Heber, for a Uintah Basin livestock auction ring, Councilman Ben-nie Ben-nie Schmiett said Tuesday. The settlement followed in the wake of Monday night's , meeting of the city council, at which time Roy Todd, representing repre-senting Heber auction, withdrew with-drew his bid for a lease on ground immediately north of the rodeo grounds and Highway 40, after some opposition to the proposed site had been expressed ex-pressed by Mrs. J. V. McLea and Mrs. Ray Jordan, who were afraid odors from an auction yard so close to town would prove objectionable. Mr. Todd said at the council meeting that he withdrew his request because he wanted to come into Roosevelt on friendly terms with the townspeople, and had no desire to create any ill-feeling. ill-feeling. He continued that he planned construction of a building, approximately ap-proximately 80x90 feet, with corrals behind, which will accomodate ac-comodate about 400 cattle at one time. He said there should be little danger of the yard becoming be-coming a nuisance, as auction yard owners are required to meet state sanitary regulations. After Mr. Todd had withdrawn with-drawn his request for the original or-iginal property site, Councilman Schmiett suggested that he try to acquire the property next to the Winterton corner. Tentative Tenta-tive arrangements were made for this property, Tuesday. Bob Ferron, chairman of the Roosevelt city planning board, said the board was in favor of the auction yard, if sanitation were kept up and the yard did not become an eye-sore. Alva C. Snow and E. J. Nixon, representing repre-senting the Lions club, appeared at the meeting to express the Lions' endorsement of a Roosevelt Roos-evelt auction yard. i i 1 . It was also decided at the council meeting that Councilman Council-man Steve Bellon, chairman of the Indian Days committee, and .other interested city councilmen would meet Thursday night, March 30, with the Roosevelt Young Farmers, in an attempt to reach an agreement on the Young Farmers A Day project. Councilman Bellon said the councilmen will hear the tentative ten-tative plans for A Day, discuss the time and .place, and see whether the observance should be worked into Indian Days. It was also disclosed at the meeting that the Alterra Young Farmers are anxious to join the Roosevelt club in the project. A meeting to arrange a settlement settle-ment of the conflict arising over the use of the racetrack grounds was announced by the council for last Wednesday night. Councilman Coun-cilman Bellon, chairman of the city property committee, Councilmen Coun-cilmen Schmiett and Elmer "Bumps" Eldredge, members of the committee, and Mayor Homer Hom-er P. Edwards met with Art Allen, holder of the racetrack lease; Gene Christensen, Dee Allred, and Cecil Jenkins, of the Roosevelt Riding club; and Lester Mullins, representing the independent racing groups of the area. The assembled parties voted to handle the grounds under a committee arrangement, with representatives from the various groups. Councilman Bellon and Mr. Allen were selected as members mem-bers of the committee, and members mem-bers from the other groups will be announced by next Wednesday. Wednes-day. The committee will work out rules and regulations for the handling of the racetrack, and work out a calendar for this year. |
