Show Ballard , Mrs. Ellen Bracken Francis Todd Wins Short Story Award Mrs. Francis S. Todd, a former for-mer member of Ballard ward, was awarded forty dollars, the first prize, for the annual Relief Society short story contest. This is Mrs. Todd's fourth story printed in the Relief Society magazine. Mrs. Todd was born and raised near Cedarview. She had won contests .at the Snow College, A. C. at Logan, and a Deseret News Christmas story. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wis-combe, Wis-combe, of Provo, have been recent re-cent visitors in Ballard. While here they were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd. Supt. Harold M. Lundel and three state inspectors were at Alterra on Tuesday making a thorough inspection of school rooms and the kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bartlett, of Provo, spent part of the holidays holi-days at the home of Mrs. Bart-lett's Bart-lett's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ray-mond Eldredge. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bingham and three children, of HeTiman, visited at the home of Mr. ana Mrs. Charles Bingham last week. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Shisler and baby left Monday. Dec. 29 for New Orleans, Lt., where they expect to stay for three weeks. Elbie Winn, of Grant's Pass, Oregon, is visiting at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Winn and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gardner. One of the most successful dances was held in the chapel, under the supervision of the M.I.A. on Tuesday evening, Dec. 30. A very large crowd was in attendance. Refreshments were sold. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shisler and Mr. and Mrs. Karl Shisler and baby were guerts at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mont S. Poulson, at Duchesne, on Christmas day. Mr and Mrs. Lynn McClure and baby have been euests at t'-p omr of Mrs. McClure's pirents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Wooley. at Lapoint, recently. Jim Fisher and grandson, of Vernal, were in Roosevelt on Saturday on business and visiting visit-ing old friends. Mrs. G. E. Rowberry and daughter, of Tooele, spent a weeK visiting her daughter, Miss Dorothy Ellertson, of Roosevelt. Mr. and Mrs. George Bracken and son,. Lynn, enjoyed New Year's dinner with them and Miss Dolores Hutcheon. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Johnson John-son entertained the following at New Year's dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd, Keith Max, Howard and Joanne, Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Mohlman and children, chil-dren, from Altamont. |
