Show Hinety-First Birthday Observed By Eilrs. Mary R. Orser; Life Filled IVIlh Varied Chapters Mrs. "Mary Rogers Orser ob-' served her 91st birthday last Thursday, May 27, when approximately ap-proximately twenty friends called during the afternoon to offer congratulations to' her. A family birthday dinner was held in her honor Sunday, when Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Orser and family, of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Darrell Crockett of Logan, and Mrs. J O. Orser, Roosevelt, were present for the occasion. Mrs. Orser, one of the early settlers of Roosevelt, was born May 27, 1863, in Provo, Utah, and married Franklin Orser in 1891 in the same community, moving to Vernal that same year. Mr. Orser Homesteaded one-half one-half of the present Roosevelt townsite in 1906 and the Orsers have made their home here since that time. Mrs. Orser has led a memorable memor-able life, serving as superintendent superin-tendent of Uintah County Schools in 1902, often riding side saddle to visit the distant schools in the county. She served as a member1 of the school board for a number of years and was principal of the Ballard School for six years. She also taught many years in Roosevelt and Provo schools. She has been active in the Roosevelt Business and Professional Profes-sional Women's Club, Altrus Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and many civic clubs. In addition to her busy civic and school life, Mrs. Orser still had time for church duties, serving ser-ving on the LDS stake board of the MIA and also on the stake Relief board. She has always taken a prominent part in political affairs af-fairs and has always been extremely ex-tremely interested in the cultural cul-tural and educational phases of life. She has been very hospitable in her home, making it a stopping stop-ping place for church groups and many visitors throughout the Uintah Basin. Just recently Mrs. Orser was honored as one of the past pres- j idents at a Roosevelt P-TA meeting and gave brief, but interesting in-teresting remarks. Last Friday Mrs. Orser attended at-tended her DUP meeting in the afternoon and also another social so-cial affair that evening. She still is, vitally interested in world and community affairs, conversing intelligently on about any subject discussed. , She is the mother of three children the late Lynn Orser, former Utah senator from Uintah Uin-tah and Duchesne counties; Edwin Ed-win D. Orser, San Francisco; and Mrs. Darrell Crockett, Logan. Log-an. She has six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. |
