Show OPERATOR WINS HAIR DRYER Local beauty operators attending the State Beauty Convention at the Newhouse Hotel in Salt Lake Sunday and Monday were Essie Alexander, Reatha Harmston and Faye Yack. - Mrs. Yack was very lucky at the convention, winning a Rayette DeLite hair dryer, the results of holding the lucky ticket. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Bowman were Salt Lake visitors Monday. Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor spen Sunday in Salt Lake City visiting Mrs. Elon Taylor, who is recuperating from a broken leg. Dr. aid Mrs. D. G. Mantyla are planning to be in Salt Lake City Thursday and Friday. Dr. Mantyla will attend the oral clinic at Ft. Douglas. Saturday evening the Mantylas plan to attend the University play, "White Sheep of the Family." Recent visitors at the Bill Nelson Nel-son residence were Mr. and Mrs. Derrell Hall and children, Dennis and Debby of Salt Lake. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Sorenson and Gerald Reeves, all of Rangely. Dick Ruppel, son of Wm. H. Ruppel, Jr., left Wednesday to report to Ft. Ord, Calif., for a six-months' six-months' basic training period in the U. S. Army Reserve. He planned plan-ned to vjsit a few days in Salt Lake enroute to the coast state. The Byron Boltons are elated over the birth of a new daughter, born Sept. 26 in the Roosevelt hospital. She tipped the scales at 7 lbs. 11 ozs., and answers to "Marlene." Her 18-month old brother, bro-ther, Dean, anxiously awaits her arrival home. Walking on air over the arrival ar-rival of a new baby daughter are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ross. The little miss was born Sept. 23 at the Roosevelt hospital, weighing in at 6 lbs. 10 ozs. She and her mother were released from the hospital last Friday and have been receiving capable care at the home of the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orson Stevens. Other elated grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Marion Ross. Congratulations to all. concerned. Mrs. Donald Sorensen and new son, Gary, arrived home from the hospital last Sunday, anxiously received re-ceived -by proud father and daughter. daugh-ter. Jeanette. Gary arrived Tues day, Sept. 25, and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. Congratulations, folks. Mr. and Mrs. John R. McArthur are the proud parents of a new baby girl, born Sept. 20 in the Roosevelt Hosiptal. "Kristi Ann' as the new little Miss will be known, tipped the scales at 7 y2 lbs. Elated grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack McArthur, Roosevelt, Roose-velt, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gray, Vernal. This makes three boys and two girls for the John McArthurs. Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Bellon at tended funeral services for Mrs. Bellon's cousin in Salt Lake City last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Sullivan returned Wednesday night from St. George, where they visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orman Wilkins, and her sister from Los Angeles, Calif. The also visited in Richmond, Utah, where they spent a few days with Mr. Sullivan's Sul-livan's mother, Mrs. David Sullivan. Sulli-van. Enroute home they stopped in Salt Lake City to visit their son, Arden, and Mrs. Sullivan's two brothers. They also went through the Salt Lake Temple while there. Gordon Harmston, manager of the Frontier Grill Cafe, underwent an appendectomy at the Roosevelt hospital Tuesday. Reports indicate that he is getting along fine. Miss JeNeal Pack of Salt Lake City was a Roosevelt visitor last week-end. While here she was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay S. Fitzgerald. Miss Pack is employed by the Pan Handle Oil Corporation. (Crowded Out Last Week) GRANDPARENTS TWICE Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Wardle have become grandparents twice in the past few weeks. First arrival making mak-ing this possible was the baby girl born Aug. 28 to Mr. and" Mrs. Robert Madsen (former Dorothy Dor-othy Wardle) at American Fork. She weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. and answers to "Patty Ann" and has one brother. Other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mellor of Monroe. The second grandchild making entrance into the world was another an-other girl, which was born last Sunday, Sept. 23,- at the Roosevelt Roose-velt Hospital .to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wardle. Her name is 'Kathy' and she weighed 7 lbs. Besides the Wardles, she has two other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dillman, who arrived Monday evening eve-ning from Idaho to become acquainted ac-quainted with the little one. Keith was released from the Veterans Hospital to come home and his new daughter last week. Narvol Hanson left Tuesday for Alabama, where he will be stationed sta-tioned in the personnel department depart-ment of the U. S. armed service. He has been home on a 12-day leave, following his basic train-at train-at Ft. Lewis, Wash. He drove his own car back. Dr. and Mrs. D. G. Mantyla attended at-tended the Kappa Sigma Fraternity Fratern-ity Alumni dinner-dance last Saturday Sat-urday night at the Ft. Douglas Officers' Olub. Houseguests at the Thure Carlson Carl-son home last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Brown and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Richard Brown of Salt Lake City. Returning Sunday the Carlsons accompanied them as far as the Pinon forest to gather pinenuts. Of interest to many in the Basin is the announcement of the arrival of a baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. George Houston of Provo, who recently moved there from Roosevelt Roose-velt to make their home. They are most delighted to have a sister for their six sons. Her name is "Mary Margaret." Mrs. Nettie Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Reynolds and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reynolds attended at-tended the Dairy Princess-Miss Utah State Fair contest last Saturday Sat-urday night in Salt Lake City, in which VaLoy participated as the entry of Duchesne County. (Her story concerning the contest will be published next week). Monday and Tuesday visitors at the Marion Bowman residence were Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hardy of Milford, who were enroute to Los Alamos, N. M. for a visit. Mrs. Hardy is Mr. Bowman's sister. Arriving Sunday from Glendaile, Calif., for a ten-day visit were Mr. and Mrs. J. V. McLea, who are attending to local business interests. They reported that they are about to move, into their new home in Glendale. Mrs. Tom Halen is due from the LDS Hospital Friday. She will be accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Birch, who are planning a fishing .trip before they return. Leaving last week to attend the USAC at Logan were Connie Stevens, Maurine Yack, Carma White, Nadine Chugg and Ida Andrews who will reside together in an apartment. Mr. and Mrs. Hollis G. Hulling-er Hulling-er and family spent last Friday and Saturday at the Fair. Mrs. Richard Edwards and son, Richard, Lee Asay, Jane and Jimmy Ashdown, and Mr. and |
