Show Funeral Services For Mabel Gibson Held At Bountiful Funeral services were held at the . Union mortuary, Bountiful, Bounti-ful, on Dec. 7, for Mrs. Mabel E. Gibson, a former Gusher resident, resi-dent, wife of Charles E. Gibson, of Bountiful, who died Dec. 5 at 2:30 a, m, Services were conducted by Rev. George K, Dreher, of Congregational Con-gregational Community church-Mrs. church-Mrs. Dirk Van Uitert furnished organ selections preceeding and following the service. Bishop R. V. Ord of the Fourth ward offered the invocation. invoca-tion. Mrs. Ocel Walker, of Salt Lake City sang, "One Sweetly j Solemn Thought," accompanied I by Mrs. Elizabeth Otis. Following Follow-ing the reading of passages from the Scriptures and a message of hope and consolation from the minister, interment was 'made in the Bountiful city cem- ' etery. Out of town friends attending the services were Mrs. Henry Wopsock, of Whiterocks; Mrs. Helen McFarland and Mrs. Stella Stel-la Underwood, Gusher; and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Taylor, Vernal. Mabel Elizabeth Alexander I was born Dec. 26, 1873 in Os-Iceola, Os-Iceola, Iowa, a daughter of Ar-ithur Ar-ithur and Sarah Hayhurst Alex-1 Alex-1 ander. She was educated in the schools of Mason City, Iowa, and attended Breck college at Wilder, Wild-er, Minn. She taught in the elementary ele-mentary schools of Minnesota prior to her marriage to Charles E. Gibson in 1897. Mrs. Gibson was a full partner part-ner with her husband in editing and publishing weekly newspapers newspa-pers in Welcome and Triumph, Minn., and at Flagler, Colo., following fol-lowing the family's move to Eastern Colorado in 1908. Mrs. Gibson was a leader in civic and religious affairs and was especially recognized for her work with the young people. peo-ple. She was a life member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Temper-ance union and was affiliated with the Royal Neighbors and Rebekah lodges. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson moved to Utah in 1918, where Mrs. Gibson entered Civil Service, holding a position as Girl's advisor ad-visor in the Indian Boarding-schools Boarding-schools at Chemawa, Ore., and Whiterocks, Utah, until her retirement re-tirement in 1936. The Gibsons bought a home in Gusher, where they lived until they moved to Bountiful in 1947. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. V. T. Rice, of Bountiful; three grandchildren, Mrs. Carl Peterson, of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Helen Armstrong and Glen Rice, and three greatgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, Ann, Alan and Patricia Armstrong, all of Bountiful; Boun-tiful; a sister and brother, Mrs. Laura Pollard and Roscoe Alexander, Alex-ander, of East End, Sask., Canada; Can-ada; and a brother, Taylor Alexander, Al-exander, of St. Paul, Minn. |
