Show Strange Objects Descend On Whiteroclis Bench WHITEROCKS Two weeks ago 2 residents of the White-rocks White-rocks area had almost identical iden-tical experiences with two strange gadgets that were released re-leased from Army airplanes as they flew over that part of the Basin. f Wediu-Hav morning .n note irorn Fern Houston, our Bennett Ben-nett correspondent, came to the Standard office telling of the experience of Ray Houston, Hous-ton, who on his way to his farm to feed cattle on White-rocks White-rocks bench, discovered a ba-loon ba-loon about 6 ft. in diameter hovering near the ground. Upon examining- the gadget, he discovered a radio attachment attach-ment had been assembled to the baloon, and could be heard. Only a short time after receiving re-ceiving Mrs. Houston's note, the Standard had a visitor Mrs. Barbara Wilkerson who not only told a similar story, but had the funny little gadget gad-get in her possession, which had the following identification identifica-tion plate attached to the radio ra-dio contraption: Serial U. S. Army Signal Corps Serial No. 30102: Radio Transmitter T69AMT-2;" and was apparently made by the Automotive Mrg. Corp. No address listed. Mrs. Wilkerson related that on this particular day, (she couldn't remember the exact date), she had just stepped., from her home and was going go-ing to feed her chickens when . she heard a plane overhead. She looked up just as the Army aircraft, which was flying very low, released the baloon and it floated to earth, landing in her yard. She immediately im-mediately took possession of the gadget, at least after she had convinced herself it was not a Communistic bomb, and then began wondering just what procedure she should use in publicising her find. Her local newspaper was the final answer. Mr. Houston tied his recovered recov-ered baloon to his wagon, but as he was driving under an electric light line, the string holding it broke and the baloon floated away. An attempt to shoot it down with a .22 rifle failed, and the gadget ascended into space. What the purpose of the ba-loon-radio gadgets are seems to be shrouded in mystery, at least in these parts and why the Army is using White-rocks White-rocks bench as the spot in the Basin to release them, is as much of a mystery. Any information on the subject of 'radio-baloons' released by the U. S. Army Air Corps would be appreciated by the Standard Stand-ard office. |
