Show " DECEMBEH 28, 1950 Eight Hurt, Two Critically In Christmas Night Wrecks Four Rushed To LDS Hospital In Salt Lake City Eight Uintah Basin young people peo-ple were sent to hospitals; Christmas night as the result of two accidents, caused, it is believed, by the fog that de-cended de-cended during the night and made visibility very poor on the highways in this vicinity. Four of the eight that were treated at the Roosevelt hospital hos-pital were sent on to the L.D.S. hospital in Salt Lake City, where the condition of two remain re-main in a very critical condition, condi-tion, and the other two are showing improvement. Injured: Floyd Clark, 21, Myton, LDS hospital, condition critical. Wizard Smith, 19. Myton, LDS hospital, condition critical. Scott Johnson, 19, LDS hospital, hos-pital, condition serious. Peggy Luke, 17, LDS hospital, condition serious. i Ben Clark, 18, Myton, released re-leased from Roosevelt hospital; minor bruises and injuries. Ronald Duncan, 19, Neola, minor mi-nor injuries; released Tuesday from the Rooseveit hospital. Lorna Reed, 22, Myton, minpr injuries, released from Roosevelt Roose-velt hospital. Seven of the persons were involved in a two-car head-on crash about 3 am. Tuesday about two miles west of Roos- i evelt on Highway 40 following a dance at Victory Park. Carl Hacking, Roosevelt marshal mar-shal reported Wilard Smith was driver of the westbound car and riding with him were Foyd and Ben Clark, both home on Army furloughs for the holidays, and Lorna Reed. Driver of the eastbound car was Scott John- , son. Riding with him were Peggy Peg-gy Luke, and Ronald Duncan. Marshal Hacking said debria from the accident was scattered 175 feet on either side of the scene. The Smith vehicle was tipped on its side. Both vehicles were completely wrecked. Mr. Johnson, Miss Luke, Mr. Smith and Floyd Clark were transferred to the LDS hospital at Salt Lake City. Miss Showalter was a passenger passen-ger in an automobile driven by i Kay Mecham. Mr. Mecham told Investigating Officer Sam Hatch of the Highway patrol that he attempted to avoid striking; cattle cat-tle as they crossed the highway five miles east of Roosevelt in the foggy weather Monday at 9:30 p. m. The car went into a ditch. Two other passengers, Marjorie Snyder and Jay Has-lam Has-lam were uninjured. |
