Show Legion Ball Opens With Roosevelt, Altamont Winning Altamont downed defending champion Fort Duchesne by a score of 14-6 and Roosevelt was awarded a forfiet over Duchesne in the opening games of the 1955 District Nine American Legion Junior Baseball League. Today, Vernal opens its league season after drawing a bye on the first day of play by playing host to Roosevelt. Altamont travels to Duchesne for the other game today, to-day, and Fort Duchesne draws a bye. Next Tuesday, Roosevelt plays at Fort Duchesne, Duchesne moto rs to Vernal and Altamont sits out. The following Thursday, Roosevelt is at Altamont, Vernal at Ft. Duchesne and Duchesne draws a bye. All games are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p,m. Glen Drollinger was the starting start-ing pitcher for Altamont against Fort Duchesne, but tossed only two innings after which he was relieved by Allen Iorg. Iorg went on to finish the game and receive credit for the victory. Leonard Shaw was the losing pitcher. |
