Show FARManJHOMEte UTAH STATU "TJON 8ERVICJ . AGRICULTURE HOfrUt KCONO"" "By Louis A. Jensen County Agricultural Agent The International Farm Youth Exchange program is accomplishing accom-plishing a lot toward unifying people of different races and countries through whicn we are coming to know our loreign neighbors better and tney are beginning to understand us. This program is like trading young people because for each youth we send to a foreign country, we get one here in return. These young people spend a certain period of time here in learning of our ways and then go home to tell their people about us. A number of these farm youth have come to Utah and some of them to the Uintah Basin. Among them was Petros Tonjous who was here last year. He lived with Van Winterton, of Roosevelt, Roose-velt, for a week and then spent a week with Theron Horrocks, of Neola. These people enjoyed this young man. He worked with' them on the farm and gave them a lot of information about his home country of Greece. There is now a possibility of getting another young man to spend some time on a few of our farms. He is Ian "R. Shar-rack Shar-rack from New South Wales, Australia. He is eighteen 'years of age, has a high school education, educa-tion, comes from a wheat and sheep farm of about 3000 acres and has helped to raise 1400 broilers. If he comes to Utah, he will be in the state about February 15 to' May 15. Are there any farm families in this area who would like to have this young man come and stay with them for a few weeks? Anyone interested in this should contact me soon. Many farmers and ranchers report that if winter weather continues, they will need additional addi-tional hay to see them through. We have made inquiry throughout through-out Utah and neighboring states for sources of hay. Up to the present time alfalfa hay has been located in Box Elder and Millard Counties. The price is $40 to $45 a ton. Anyone who is interested in this should contact con-tact me immediately. In this time of short hay supply sup-ply we should all exhibit an attitude of helpfulness. Those who have more than enough for their own needs should offer of-fer it for sale and help those who are less fortunate. I am receiving re-ceiving inquiries every day for hay and would appreciate knowing know-ing about any that is available for sale in this area. |
