Show Activities 0f Mm Mission Another year has rolled around in the work of the Uintah Uin-tah Basin Indian Mission of the LDS Church. As a result of the voluntary labors of the missionaries, mission-aries, special Christmas Com-j munity programs were held at i Gusher for the Ft. Duchesne District, at Ouray, Randlett, Whiterocks, Lapoint and Bridge-'land. Bridge-'land. A total of 530 Indian people peo-ple participated in these activities. activi-ties. I Lack of space will not per-jmit per-jmit going into' detail for each program, but highlights of three of the celebrations have been reported by James E. Bacon, Uintah Basin Indian Mission president. Randlett District 1 At the Randlett Ward Chapel over a hundred people gathered 1 and were welcomed by Bishop and Mrs. Frank Jarman. Under the guidance and suggestions sug-gestions of the missionaries, the All-Indian program was previously pre-viously arranged, with the invocation in-vocation being given by James E. Bacon and an address of welcome wel-come by Henry Cespooch. speaking speak-ing in his native tongue. A special Nativity pageant was presented, commencing witn twelve boys and girls giving readings and poems, and singing sing-ing Christmas carols as the pageant pa-geant progressed. Music assistants assist-ants were Mrs. Richens and Delsa Durphy, and .pageant reader was Frances Cespooch. Capably filling the role of Santa, in old St. Nick's absence, was William B. Myore, who distributed dis-tributed candy and nuts to all. Gifts were exchanged before the scene changed to' the recreation recre-ation hall, where dancing1 was enjoyed by young and .old. Music Mu-sic was provided by the mission record player, under the direction direc-tion of Mr: and Mrs. Morgan Merkley. Lighting arrangements were in charge of Rulon Lind, who offered the benediction at the climax of the very successful success-ful party. Bridgeland District The home evening at the new Robert Colorow home in Bridge-land Bridge-land lent an inviting atmosphere for the 25 relatives and neighbors neigh-bors who were in attendance. The missionaries were invited to show the film, "King of Kings," Cecil B. DeMille's production pro-duction of the life of Jesus. Following the film showing. I homemade cookies, buttered pop . corn and punch were served to 1 the group by Mrs. Colorow. and ; all enjoyed listening to record-i ings of Yuletide songs on .he modern cotnbination radio and record player. The well-furnished and tidy Indian home depicted hospitality hospital-ity and friendship for the most enjoyable evening. Lapoint District The Lapoint evening of December De-cember 30 in the recreation room of the ward meeting house was enjoyed by the 35 parents and children in attendance, who 1 all participated in the fun and the singing of Christmas carols. Dances and games were enjoyed, en-joyed, under the supervision of Mrs. Stella Richards, of Vernal, and gifts were distributed. Head of the program committee commit-tee was Alfonzo Von, and refreshment re-freshment committee members included Leland Young, Edmon Von, Bertha Cuch and Afton Von. The successful party was a worthwhile project, with all agreeing they would like to have more like it during the New Year. James E. Bacon, Mission President |
