Show This Week's RECIPE . . . A recipe for a very delicious mahogany cake with marshmal-low marshmal-low frosting has been submitted to the paper this week by Mrs. .Pat Markey.. MAHOGANY CAKE Vz cup shortening 1V4 cups sugar Vz cup cocoa 2 eggs Vz cup boiling water Vz cup sweet milk 2 tsp. soda 2 cups flour 1- tsp. vanilla Vz tsp. salt , " nuts if desired. Cream shortening. Add sugar and cocoa. Add eggs. When creamed add milk in which soda is dissolved, alternately with flour, and . last add the boiling boil-ing water. Blend well and bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) approximately 30 minutes or until un-til done. Makes 2 layers. A few' drops of red cake coloring may be added for color if desired, j When cool spread with marsh-mallo'w marsh-mallo'w frosting. MARSHMALLOW FROSTING 2- 3 cup sugar 1 egg white 2 tbs; cold water V tsp. cream tartar 1 -tsp. lemon extract or juice 6 marshrnallows . Combine sugar, cold water and cream tartar in double boiler. boil-er. Beat with egg beater until dissolved. Add egg white and beat . rapidly while it cooks. Add the lemon flavoring and marsh-mallows marsh-mallows and beat until smooth. |
