Show Catholics Off Basin To Build Home For Sisters A campaign is now underway in the Uintah Basin among all members of the Catholic Church fdr funds with which to build a new home at Roosevelt that will house the Fransciscan Sisters of the Atonement, who will come to this area for the purpose of teaching teach-ing the young people of the church. According to the Rev. Ignatius Strancar, pastor of the St, Helen's church in Roosevelt, the program was officially launched recently when Rev. Mark O. Benvegnu, acting act-ing pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral of Salt Lake City, spent several days in the Basin visiting With the people of the Roosevelt and Vernal parishes. He appeared before the various congregations and explained the benefits that would acrue from having the sis- ters of charity come to the area to live. He also met with the building committee and gave them ideas and suggestions on how to proceed with the project. Blueprints for the $30,000 edifice edi-fice which will be erected near the St. Helen's church in Roosevelt, Roose-velt, are being prepared and should be available in the near future. In the meantime, a concerted con-certed drive is being made to get the funds in so that work can begin be-gin as soon as the plans and specifications are approved. Pledges Pled-ges will be received by the priests at Vernal and Roosevelt. The Franciscian Sisters, who are known as Nuns, that will come here have been assigned to the Provo area. They will dedicate their entire time in educating the Catholic children in the Roosevelt and Vernal parishes. |
