The control of weeds in Utah is one of the state's most serious ser-ious problems. It is serious because be-cause weeds reduces the income of farmers, cut down the production pro-duction of farm products, reduces re-duces the value of Utah's natural nat-ural resource, the land, takes property off the tax rolls, and increases the cost of government, govern-ment, so far as weed control is concerned. Realizing the public interest in this important problem, many years ago the leglislature enacted en-acted laws permitting cities, counties, and the state to cooperate co-operate with land owners in combating the weed manace. This program provides full participation par-ticipation by farmers and other land owners, and provides enforcement en-forcement machinery by which weeds can be cleaned up on canals, ca-nals, railroads, ranges, aritt other oth-er infested areas. New weeds are introduced into the state from time to time by various means, such as on trucks, railroad cars, and even airplanes. Weed seed rides into the state on the hair and wool of livestock, in the streams, and even in some special cases on its 'own parachute wings. |
