Show In The Interest Of Flying Saucers Rumors persist concerning the flying saucers. Are they a hoax, new American secret weapons, or gadgets from Mars? The latest rumor story comes from Texas, where a 12-year-old boy is reported to have actually touched one. But then, Texas is a big state with a lot of big stories. Where there's smoke there's fire, some people claim, espcial-ly espcial-ly the back fence gossipers. Maybe May-be they're right. Perhaps someday some-day the armed services will confirm con-firm the existence of the saucers, sauc-ers, but then again the. public may really be seeing things with their imagination. The flying1 saucer story is reminiscent of the big erne Orson Or-son Welles pulled years ago, when it was announced on his radio program that the earth was beini invaded by Martians. That one really set off the fireworks. fire-works. The end of the world was in sight. One family in the vicinity called a hasty family reunion, so that all the members could die together, Similar reactions re-actions were prevalent all over the country. What's funny, though, is that the Uintah Basin is neglected in such a polite flying saucer fashion. Is it possible that those ignorant outsiders fail to realize rea-lize what a perfect, isolated spot this is for secret flying saucer practice, either for the armed services o r Martians? (Don't they recognize a Sather-like Sather-like bargain when they see one?) In the mountains and sparsely populated areas of the Basin, extensive experiments could be conducted unobserved; and, possibly, they are secretly secret-ly underway at this moment. Certainly the Basin has more to offer in the way of suitable flying terrain and atmospheric conditions than Texas. In any event Basinites can well afford to keep their eyes glued to the heavens. Someone could stumble across the story of the century, and like any other newspaper, this one is always al-ways looking for a big scoop. However, the Standard will accept ac-cept nothing but verified reports re-ports from usually reliable sources. There are too many wild rumors floating around already, al-ready, and we have our reputation reputa-tion for accuracy to consider. GWH |
