Show Arcadia Boy Wins Kiwanis 4-H Club Dairy Calf Douglas Ho'lgate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holgate of Arcadia, Ar-cadia, last Friday was awarded the Kiwanis Club's 1954 Dairy Calf, given annually to some deserving 4-H Club member who is interested in Dairying and who has excelled in his 4-H work during the summer. The calf was presented by Cliff Memmott, club president, and Elmer Yergensen, chairman of the Kiwanis Agriculture and Conservation committee, during the Duchesne County Fair. In 1951 the Kiwanis Club conceived the idea of doing Something to stimulate dairying in the Basin and came up with the dairy calf idea. John Per-cival, Per-cival, of Ioka, won the Jersey calf in '51, which came from the Paul Foote herd of Ioka. Incidents In-cidents this year's calf also came from Mr. Foote's herd. Lonnie Carlile, of Tabiona, won the Holstein calf in 1952; Newell New-ell Richens, of Myton, won last year, his was a Holstein also. All calves have been purebred stock. i Periodic reports are expected by the Kiwanis Club from the winner, and the rules suggest the calf must be exhibited each vear for three' years at the Duchesne Du-chesne County Fair. The first heifer calf born to the 4-H cow becomes the property of the Kiwanis Club, which is the only hold the club has on the animal after it is presented. |
