Show Congratulations Come From t Korea To U.II.S. April 1, 1953 Young Dung Po, Korea mneratulations! 1 t couldn't help but to sit rieht down and to send to all S vou the above congratulations congratula-tions (I will neglect to' mention i that 'i am sitting on the best rhair in the Battalion .. . I F like it though, because it takes f back home. . . yep, I'll nev- er forget the old cow-stools I 1 used to sit on out in the corral cor-ral but I won't mention it). We've got things pretty modern mod-ern oyer here. (Everything but the plumbing). Yesterday the ohone rang and Lowell Hall was on the other end and he ; Was stuttering and grunting and carrying on in a peculiar sort of r way, so I went down to his out- (fit to find out what the trouble was: It turned out that he had just got a letter from Roosevelt. (That occasionally happens you ( know). Lowell has been over i here for quite a while and so I rounded up a Korean interpreter interpre-ter and finally found out what all the excitment was about. Union had whipped American Fork for the State Championship. Champion-ship. It really gave us a shot in the arm. (No repercussions this time). After bowing very low to '' Lowell, I left his quonset-hut. . . put my shoes back on. . . and went ripping down the road to tell Lt. Jay Murray all about it. Jay, as you know, is from Whiterocks and a former Alta-mont Alta-mont peasant. He's stationed here also. Jay was so' busy court - martialing guys that wouldn't take orders from him that I had a heck of a time getting get-ting to see him. When he heard the news he started in jumping and hollerin' and acting just like he was on an alumni assembly. as-sembly. Later, as we were finishing fin-ishing off the last of our rice and Kush-i he made the comment, com-ment, "I always said that if you would put Roosevelt and Alterra together we'd really go places." (Yeah. . . we really went places. Part of us went to the State Championship and the rest of us went to Korea). But no fooling, we are really glad to hear the news and people peo-ple back in the Basin will remember re-member this spring as being the time of the greatest excitement and interest since someone put Principal Ribgy's milk cow in the hot lunch kitchen. In one way I hate to" see you basketball players who are seniors sen-iors graduate. . . but when I stop to think that one of you may be my potential replacement, replace-ment, then all I can solemnly say, "Your graduation day will be the happiest day of my life." ! Congratulations again, and we hope to be there next year to" watch Union retain the championship. Pvt. Kay Edrington U. S. 56132109 Hds Co. 76th Eng. Con. Bn. A.P.O. 971, P.M. San Francisco, Calif. |
