Show vc Ashioa Oefs Ooyai 'kkmz In Mml Mmiw$ Awaiting Eve Ashton, of Ver-nel, Ver-nel, was a royal reception and homecoming following her un opposed election as president o; the National organization of the American Legion Auxiliary. Although several large cities in the state made a strong bid for the gala homecoming, Vernal, Ver-nal, her own hometown, wa-named wa-named the city where the big celebration was staged Monday-Arriving Monday-Arriving with Mrs. Ashton was a large delegation of na tionally prominent leaders of the Legion, Lewis K. Gough. eluding the new commander of the Legion,, Lewis K. Gough. Also present for the celebration were Governor and Mrs. J. Bracken Lee. A brunch was served for Mrs. Ashton and out-of-town guests at the home of her son. Ralph Ashton, and at 1 p.m. a colorful color-ful parade, with many beautiful floats depicting the theme of the parade, "The Utah Trail," was witnessed. A feature of the parade was a locomotive engins of the 40 and 8 from Salt Lake City first train ever to reach the Uintah Basin. Brief addresses and welcome home ceremonies were held on the courthouse lawn in front of the speaker's platform, followed by open house at Hotel Vernal. A band concert was given Monday evening- on the courthouse court-house lawn. Another highlight of the oc ;asion was the official lighting of Vernal's new White Way bv Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Gough and Mayor Henry B. Millecam. Si-.
