Show FARManJHOMESl UTAH BTATB EXTENSION BERVICB AGKICULTUBI HOHK ECONOMIC By LOUIS A. JENSEN Recent losses due to red water wa-ter disease have emphasized the fact that it is necessary to vaccinate vac-cinate cattle, twice a year in order or-der to obtain complete immunity from this disease which is becoming be-coming more common here. There are many who have thought that red water losses do not occur in the winter. This is not the case, as . proven by numerous losses sustained recently. re-cently. A good example is Reed Lemon, of Ioka, who has lost two dairy cows this winter from the disease. It is recommended that all cattle be vaccinated for red water wa-ter in the spring and again in the fall. ' Dr. R. E. Thomas, who has been practicing veterinary medicine med-icine in this area, has moved away, and the weekly veterinarian veterin-arian service on Thursdays has been discontinued. A renewed effort is being made to obtain a veterinarian to locate in Roosevelt. Grading of range bulls will be conducted in the county during dur-ing the week of March 13. Anyone Any-one desiring to have this work done should notify the county agent's office, if he has not already done so. Now is the time to take care of your cattle lice and g'rub control con-trol work. All cattle infested with lice should be treated by spraying, dipping or in the case of a few animals, dusting with powder will do the job. Some of the best materials to use are Roteone, Lindane, DDT and Benzine Hexachloride. The last two are not recommended for dairy cattle. As soon as holes appear in the grub lumps on the. backs of cattle, they should be treated. The only recommended rec-ommended medication for this is Rotenone. |
