Show Union Stung By Wasps 12-7; Play f..1oab Friday A potent passer, and a weak pass defense spelled the difference dif-ference in victory and defeat for the Union High football team last Saturday as they lost a 7-12 game to the visiting Wasatch Wa-satch High Wasps from Heber City on the Fort Duchesne field. On the first three plays, Union Un-ion showed their potent running attack and power plays as they picked up about 40 yards and then had a pass intercepted by Wasatch to stop them for a moment. However, the Wasps fumbled and Union recovered on the Wasps 48-yard line. With John Benson directing the play, and making a few sizeable size-able gains, Union went to work and marched to the 10-yard line, where Scott Edrington. a guard until last Saturday, carried the pig-skin over for a TD. Then Coaches Elden Wright and Glen Allred produced a novelty these days in football a drop kicker, Arlys Iorg, who kicked a perfect per-fect oval through the upright; to send his team ahead 7-0. Nothing happened particularly the next two quarters, except that both teams battled on even terms between the two' 30-yard lines. But late in the fourth period the Wasps began to click, with a passing attack that completely baffled the Union team at least they weren't able to stop them as they mixed up a series of flat passes and long and short ones to score two touchdowns and win a game that looked like it was going to bo a 7-0 affair for Union. There was one decided disadvantage disad-vantage the Union lads encountered encoun-tered several of their key players play-ers were gone for the holiday week-end, and only a handfull of reserves were available to back up a sort of make-shift lineup line-up that took the field. Throughout Through-out the game both teams displayed dis-played flashes of fine blocking and defensive and offensive power. pow-er.
