Show County Fair Opens Today, Continues Friday, Saturday Committees, Board Report Programs Ready For Biggest County Fair; Exhibit Building Nears Completion As indicated from reports by the various committees and board members of the Duchesne County Fair at a meeting Tuesday night at the Fair Grounds at Duchesne, the stage is just about all set for opening of the 1953 fair tonght and continuing through Friday and Saturday. The "Miss Duchesne County" contest will officially open the fair for the public, at 8 o'clock p.m. in the Duchesne LDS stake house, while judging of women's and girls' departments depart-ments and 4-H Club exhibits will be judged, beginning today at 10 a.m. According to Dean C. Chris-tensen Chris-tensen and Wesley R. Dickerson, co-chairmen of the fair, every committee has responded magnificently mag-nificently to their call and one of the most outstanding county fairs in the history of the county coun-ty is anticipated. There will be a great variety of exhibits in all departments, entertainment for young and old, plus a carnival carni-val for the kids. Friday will be a full day with livestock judging to begin at 10 a.m. and continue throughout through-out the morning and into' the afternoon. At 11 a.m. the successful suc-cessful candidate for Miss Duchesne Du-chesne County and her attendants atten-dants will be feted at a tea sponsored by the American Legion Leg-ion Auxiliary of Duchesne, with Barbara Meriwether in charge. In the afternoon, beginning at 2 o'clock, the girls' 4-H Club style dress revue and demonstrations demonstra-tions will be held at the stake house, to which the public is invited. The climaxing event of the day will be the Uintah Basin Horse Show, which is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the fair grounds. A. Hale Holgate, chairman, and. his assistants, Lawrell Jensen and Robert Murdock, reported a fine program has been arranged, arran-ged, featured by the appearance of the All-Palomino Mounted Posse from Salt Lake City. (See special story elsewhere in this paper). Saturday morning will be devoted de-voted to viewing the various exhibits ex-hibits at the fair grounds. Completion Com-pletion of the additional exhibit building will add greatly to the pleasure of the household, farm produce, textile and handicraft exhibits. The concluding activity of the fair will be the Rodeo at 8 p.m. under the direction of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Riding Club. The committee emphasized that entrance to all day-time activities of the fair is free, with charges being made only to the three night activities, Miss Duchesne County contest, Horse Show and Rodeo. Nothing has been left undone to make the visit of people to the fair a pleasurable experience. experi-ence. Mayor Otto E. Johnsen, on behalf of the City of Duchesne, has extended a word of welcome that is sincere and earnest, and the board of commissioners likewise like-wise is anxious to see the people peo-ple of the Basin and others respond to the fine program that has been arranged and make this the outstanding fair that it can be. |
