Show Basin Group Tours Weber Basin Project On Friday Mayor Chester Lyman and Carl Wilkerson of Duchesne; Ted OI-pin, OI-pin, James Hall and Byron O. Colton from Roosevelt, spent last Friday, May 11 with a caravan of businessmen, mayors, county commissioners, and representatives of the Tribal Council from the Basin, to look over the Weber Basin project, which is a similar project to the Central Utah project. proj-ect. The caravan was made up of Jensen, Vernal, Ft. Duchesne, Roosevelt and Duchesne people. They were met at the Wanship Dam site near Coalville by men from the Bureau of Reclamation and officials of the Weber Basin Water Users Assn. They explained the project and went in caravan to Morgan for lunch, then to the Stoddard Division Dam. From there they followed the concrete lined canal to the Gateway Power Plant and the mouth of the Gateway Gate-way tunnel. Next stop was the Layton Pump Plant and the Pine View reservoir enlargement and processing plant for Ogden's water wat-er supply. The plant is costing $750,000.00 on bonds floated by Ogden City. The Willard Reservoir project was an unusual experience. The waste water and all the water that is surplus from this system is caught in the reservoir and pumped back into highland canals, where it is used over again. The members of the party were served dinner at the Rulon White farm, where they report the hospitality hos-pitality was out of this world. This project is a fair example of what is coming to the Uintah Basin, and is a challenge to be ready for it when it comes. |
