Also planned as side activities acti-vities are archery, horseshoe pitching, ball games and all kinds of Indian games. The annual sun rites take place in a "corral," a half-moon shaped enclosure with a forked pole in the center which represents repre-sents the supreme being. Atop the pole is a shaggy mounted head of a buffalo and from the pole reach out twelve poles representing rep-resenting the rays of the sun. When the Sun Dances end the "corral" and poles remain up and next year a "corral" will be built. The only religious dance of the Utes, the dancers paint up magnificently, and dance for three days with as little rest as possible. The drums pound and the Indian women chant as the dancers go through their ritual.
