Show By Robert S. Murdock County Agricultural Agent BRUCELLOSIS Many of you livestock people are familiar with the new Bangs Law that went into effect the 1st of July. Others of you perhaps per-haps are not acquainted with the law. I feel it worth everyone's every-one's time that deals with or has livestock to read the following follow-ing summary as outlined by the State Department of Agriculture. Agricul-ture. "All people in the livestock industry engaged in buying, selling sell-ing and transporting cattle within with-in the State of Utah, are referred refer-red to the law passed by the 1951.. Utah State Legislature, which is known as the "Brucellosis "Brucel-losis Eradication Control Act.' Section 7 of this State Law states: On and after the first day of July, 1954, no female cattle cat-tle or breeding bulls more than 6 months of age, shall be sold except for slaughter, ' unless such cattle: (a) Have been tested by Brucellosis and found negative nega-tive within 30 days prior to the date of sale; or (b) ' Have been vaccinated against Brucellosis with an approved vaccine in accordance accord-ance with one of the plans approved by the State Board of Agriculture, within the previous pre-vious 24 months, or (c) Are from a Brucellosis-free Brucellosis-free certified herd or county at the time' of sale. At the present time, there are no' Brucellosis-free certified areas within the state, and only a few certified herds. The Brucellosis Eradication further states, in part: "All blood samples for the Brucellosis tests shall be collected col-lected by some qualified agents ag-ents under the supervision of the State Veterinarian. "All cattle reacting in the Brucellosis test shall be branded brand-ed with a hot iron with the letter "B" not less than two inches high and two inches wide on the left jaw and tagged tag-ged in the left ear with either eith-er Federal or State reactor tag, limiting the movement of these reactors for slaughter slaugh-ter only. "All calves, vaccinated for Brucellosis shall be permanently perman-ently identified with the official of-ficial tattoo in the right ear." For the purpose of quickly identifying vaccinated calves at the public stock yards, the North Salt Lake and Ogden Stock Yards, and also at the auction rings, without looking for the tatoo in each animal's ear, and also dairy calves may be further identified by a round bit in the right ear, or by a "V brand at least two inches high on the right jaw. Range calves shall be identified with the official tattoo' in the right ear, and may be further identified iden-tified by a "V" brand at least two inches high on the right jaw. j Utah Stale Department of ' Agriculture Regulation No. 33 Pertaining to cattle being fed for slaughter in compliance with Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 7, Utah Code Annotated 1953, which states: (The same regulations regula-tions as apply to buying, selling sell-ing or transporting).
