Duchesne 8, Second Ward 7 The battle is about over in the City-Church Softball league that has been going on the past several weeks, as final games were scheduled sched-uled for Aug. 2 and 8th, which when played will wind up active play. Unless the Firemen dump Myton next week, or the Fourth ward tips Ft. Duchesne, it looks very much like the Mytonites and the Utes will end the season in a dead heat for first, with 8 wins and one loss each. Regardless of the outcome of the games next Monday, Myton has won the Roosevelt stake church title, and will enter the division play-off at Vernal on Wednesday, Aug. 10, for a place in the All-Church finals in Salt Lake City. Myton had to exert its every resource to whip a stubborn Third ward 8 to 7 in a thriller Monday night. Lorin Ross, was the winning win-ning pitcher and his borther Leon helped his cause with two win producing bingles at the right time. Norman Long was the losing los-ing pitcher. Fort Duchesne and the Second ward had a ding-dong scrap in the 8:30 game Monday with the Utes snaring a single point win, 8-7. Lou Mallory, the winning pitcher, was also the heavy hitter with three bingles. Glade Richardson Rich-ardson poled out a home-run for the loser.s. Roosevelt ward took a 5-run lead last Thursday night over Third, and then added another pair of runs, but were not able to hold down the boys from across town, and they dropped an interesting inter-esting 9-7 contest. Burr Eldredge hit one a country mile for the only home-run of the game. Final games of the schedule will be played Monday, Aug. 8, when Fourth Ward meets Fort Duchesne at 7 p.m. and the Firemen Fire-men and Myton square off in the finale at 8:30. This last one should be a hum-dinger. |
