When word was flashed around this area of the tragic 1 accident at Moon Lake last Sunday where three persons lost their lives, in the icy waters of the lake, a sickening felling was experienced by all who heard the reports. It was a terrible shock to the entire state, and especially to the families and friends of the three victims, a man and his wife, and a bother of. the drowned woman. According to reports released through the Duchesne county sheriff's office, the three dead persons and two others were riding rid-ing in an aluminum boat which had two motors attached, one at the back and one at the side. With both motors operating, the boat was traveling in a circular course when it overturned. Two survivors were able to swim until help came. The other three were never seen and presumably sank into approximately 125 feet of icy water. ,- I am sure we all join a sorrowing family in a sincere expression expres-sion of sympathy, in their great bereavement. Their burden is especially heavy because the bodies had not been recovered by Wednesday morning when we went to press. The tragic end of a day of happiness, for the heads of three families, should again serve as a warning to anyone and everyone every-one who use boats on large bodies of water for fishing or for any other purpose. First, we should not overload a boat. Second, we should make sure we are equipped with life preservers of some kind. And, third, we should be extremely cautious in moving about the boat lest we slip overboard, or cause the boat to capsize. cap-size. These warnings are a repetition of many similar ones offer- . ed by various agencies who are concerned with sparing the lives of those who might become victims of a moment of thoughtlessness thoughtless-ness for their own safety and that of others.. vEv THE TRULY LOCAL ADVERTISING MEDIUM .... " ' All business is local' is still a 100 per cent factual statement," state-ment," says Editor & Publisher, "The sale has to be made at the local level. It takes the only truly local advertising medium newspapers to do the selling job." The newspaper is the running history of its community. Its advertisements are read because they appear beside news and other material that people are interested in. That's, why, despite the growth of other forms of mass consumption, the local, newspaper news-paper still tops the list. vEv WHAT'S NEW A crib-rocker which gently rocks baby to sleep and then shuts off at a pre-set time; a machine that can be adapted both for lawn mowing and floor polishing and, inevitably, in-evitably, an "atomic clock," which ('tis claimed) will run accurately ac-curately for 300 years! t Don't stop trying.
