Show School Closing Program Given Many parents and friends attended at-tended the 6th grade graduation exercises Friday morning at the Uintah Indian school. Talks were given by Wanda Accu-troop, Accu-troop, Irene Cesspooch, Adolph Bush, Cecelia Jenks and Elwyn Dushane. Others receiving diplomas were Evelyn Chimburas, Carl D. Wopsock, Clarice Cuch, Charles Queacut, Nelson Cesspooch, Lu-cis Lu-cis John, Noretah A. Redfoot, Clyde Tabbee and Lynn Tavea- E22?i.w 1 D. J. Fosdick is the 6th grade teacher. i Bryant Gomm, home for a 2-week 2-week furlough, returned last week to his army duties at the Chemical Depot, Tooele. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Clegg, of Salt Lake City, spent the Mother's Day week-end with Mrs. Clegg's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Miles. Many pictures were taken of Bishop's Day and Capt. Avery would be most happy to obtain negatives so that some can be sent in to "Forth" magazine. Father Joe Hogben, now with the armed forces in Germany, would be happy to see them, and will, as 'Forth" magazine is sent to all states and foreign lands. The Parish hall was open to the public during the celebration celebra-tion with the exhibits of the worK or xne jri tiuD ana i.adios Guild on display. Many people visited the hall and enjoyed the paintings and drawings completed complet-ed by members of the Indian Youth Art club. Charles Reed, Sr., had many of his charcoal drawings and several of his paintings on display. Pictures were also displayed by Ouray McCook, Roger Kurlp and Reid Taveapont. Alvin J. Duley will be away during the months of June and July, but the Indian Youth Art club will continue to function under the direction of Capt. Avery. Anyone interested in art is invited to come and visit any Monday evening at 7:30 p. m. in the Parish hall. Dr, Hoebel, head of the anthropology an-thropology department of the University of Utah, spent Friday Fri-day night at the school. He was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs, F, Lang, also of the university. Mr. Lang spent last summer on this reservation. Mr. Wolfgang, German exchange ex-change student at University of Utah, is a visitor at the school. At present he is interested in the origin, development and present significance of the Ute Indian bear dance. Under the direction of Lauren I Pike, Scouts of Troop 701 ex plored a cave last week-end in the vicinity of Farm Creek. Grant Mace, district Scout executive, discussed plans for Scouts of Troop 248 Friday afternoon. af-ternoon. Roy Adams. Frank Chamberlin, Ivan Duncan. Rex Curry, Charles Reed and Capt. Wm. Avery will work on plans in an attempt to take as many Indian Scouts to camp in July as possible. We also plan on attending the Scout cooking demonstration dem-onstration in Roosevelt, June 7. People of the Whiterocks ward gave a farewell party for Bishop Preston Atwood, Friday night. Hollis Hullinger, Roosevelt stake president, was the speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Atwood thanked the L.D.S. members for their cooperation coop-eration and expressed their appreciation ap-preciation to the people of . the community. |
