Show Plaque Received From USAC -By Standard Staff LOGAN A shield-shaped walnut plaque emblematical of highest honors in community leadership was sent this week to the Roosevelt Standard by the division of Journalism, Utah State Agricultural College. In cooperation with Utah State Press Association, the college col-lege annually conducts a Community Com-munity Leadership contest for Utah weekly newspapers. Judges this year were Charles Claybaugh, publisher of the Brigham City News and Journal, Journ-al, recently elected USPA president, presi-dent, and 1949 winner of the award; Roy Gibson, editor of the Nephi Times-News and 1950 winner; and Dean Carlton Culm-see, Culm-see, USAC professor of journalism. journ-alism. . "Exceptional service in community com-munity leadership is recognized each year by the college," Dean Culmsee commented. "Through classwork, research, and the Extension Ex-tension Service, USAC encourages encour-ages many activities throughout Utah to raise the physical and mental standards of living. We regard the newspapers as essential es-sential in helping bring all powers of the community to bear upon the solution of problems prob-lems and removal of obstacles to progress. "The Standard richly deserves the honor, and we congratulate Editor C. N. Memmott. But this paper is only one of a large number that give service of incalculable in-calculable value to their towns each week." |
