Show REPORT ON PAYMENTS TO recipients OF PUBLIC assistance payments to recipients of public assistance in utah under all programs during the first six months of 1945 totaled it was revealed in a report released today by the public welfare commission this amount was or three tenths of one per cent higher than payments during the corresponding six six months pe period riad last year money for these payments the report pointed out came from federal state and county funds as provided by federal and state laws under the financing arrangements set forth in the statutes the federal government whose financial participation ci is restricted under the social security act to old age assistance aid to dependent children and aid to the blind paid or 38 per cent of the total issued in the first half of 1945 the state of utah paid out of sales tax funds or 47 per cent of the total ana the 29 counties of utah paid or 15 per centt cent the cost of administration for the various programs varies widely J parley white commissioner in charge of research and accounting units of the welfare department commented the cost of administration ranges from 43 cents for old age assistance to cents for foster care in explanation it is important to point out that the amount of time and effort necessarily expended per case varies greatly where a visit once a year may be sufficient to verify continued eligibility in an old oid age assistance case a visit every three months or even oftener is frequently necessary in foster care aid to dependent children general relief and other cases furthermore the average payment per case runs close to 39 per month for old age assistance while in foster care for example the average is 27 thus a dollars worth of administrative effort expended on old age assistance would reflect a lower ratio to assistance than a similar amount of effort on a fos foster ter care case |
