Show death claims james brown jr jgmes james blown jr 60 died at his home in evanston Er anston at about p m thursday oct 14 he had been in ill health for three or four years and had been bedfast for more than a year for a portion of that time he was in a salt lake city hospital and during the closing months of his life was at his home A heart ailment was given as the cause of his illness and death he was born july 15 1883 in salt lake city and was the eldest son of james and hunter brown he lived in evanston all of his life active church worker from his early boyhood he was an active worker in the L D S church and held many positions of trust and responsibility As a young man he served as stake superintendent of the Y M M I 1 A several years prior to the division of the woodruff and lyman stakes he also served as ward clerk of the evanston ward as superintendent of the sunday school and as a member of the high council of the woodruff stake for eight years he was a member of the stake presidency of the woodruff stake serving as a counselor of pres wm R smith he was selected and set apart as president of the woodruff stake january 5 1935 and worked earnestly ani and 1 efficiently in that capacity for seven years he devoted much time and attention to initiation and development of the church welfare program in this stake and succeeded in getting the work well established and or 17 this required reau ired constant cOnsta nf work and worry and no doubt was a contributing factor to his physical break down in april 1942 he was ordained a patriarch which is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a mero mem of his church foreman for a period of 40 years year he was an malove of the union pacific R R co and for ganv years vears was foreman of the store department denart ment at the local reelar reclamation nation plant blant ite he held that position until his health would no longer stand the strain honored bv dance A dance was held monday night oct ar for verl pone and jessie limb A nice bowd was present consisting mort iv v of service men and young people the service men being eugene and paul kennedy calvin and his brother howard whitney kenneth myers from bear lake and of course verl veri and jessie A nice time was as had by everyone continued on last page death claims james james brown jr J r continued from page 1 he I vas was married dec 23 1940 to mary alice duncombe in the salt lake temple he is survived by his widow two sons james dick brown of Logan port ind and joseph W brown who is in the armed forces in north africa twi daughters mrs F scott taggart mrs roy G williams mrs donald L crompton and miss christine christenc brown all of evanston also are two brothers william G brown of santa monica calif and frank H brown of lovell wyo and two sisters mrs elizabeth ramsey of san bernardino calif and mrs newell B johnson of evanston four grandchildren also survive him futeral hold held sunday funeral services were held in ahr L D S first ward chapel sunday oct 17 at p in the service which was a most impressive one was was conducted by bishop ralph S ashton A large crowd of relatives relative friends and former associates of the deceased many of them coming from neighboring and distant towns were in attendance the speakers elders lawrence B johnson of randolph and harold E brough of evanston the life labors and ch character arader of the deceased and each spoke words of consolation to the members of the family the musical numbers consisted of two of president browns hymns kind words are sweet tones of the heart and abide with meby the choir under the direction ot frank vocal solo the lords prayer by mrs dorothy warner and a vocal duet come unto me b john and robert nellson neilson at the graveside gray drav eside the union pacific reclamation male chorus under the direction of john neilson very beautifully rendered until the dawn invocation and the benediction were by elders victor W matthews and john M peart respectively and the grave was dedicated by president joseph I 1 williams the active pallbearers pall bearers all em aloyes of the U P reclamation plant here were A A benson elmer eimer danks dank alex lowham frank bean vern A taylor and david roberts honorary pallbearer were E R casey N S chase dr J H holland wm win J starkey wm win T rex edward W spencer john nellson neilson and james whittaker between 50 and nd 60 members of bf the high priests quorum of the wood ruff stake attended in a body interment was in the city c cemetery under direction of the bills mortuary |
