Show THE RICH COUNTY REAPER. KILLER CONFESSES ON MOTHERS PLEA, CLEARING MYSTERY South Dakota Youth Impli cates Father in Murder of Family of Six. Williston, S. I). The most amazing murder mystery the state has ever known was unraveled here with the arrest and subsequent confession of ('harles Rannon, twenty-two-year-ol- d farmer, that he killed the entire Al hert E. Haven family, including Haven and his wife and four children, last .February. The confession followed the youths arrest and three days of questioning. He finally broke down after his er his attorney and a minister plead-- ' ed with him to clear up the mystery and tell the authorities the truth. He wound up by giving a detailed description of just how he became angry, how he killed Haven and his wife and then their four children; how he buried the bodies and then how he and his father. James F. Rannon, took possession of the farm and told, friends that the Havens had moved to Oregon. Father Is Arrested. The elder Rannon was promptly ar. rested at a lumber camp near Ore. He denied any connection with the murder, although he did tell authorities that he suspected that something had gone wrong between Wald-port- Haven and his son. ('Imries. Rannon said that he often asked (harles what happened to the Haven family, hut the lad always refused to give him a direct answer. However, States Attorney J. S. Taylor of McKenzie coupty is confident that the eldef Rannon had a hand in the crime and is returning him to Williston, where first degree murder charges also will be filed against him. The son is already under the murder charge and Is being held without hail. The Haven family, long respected RANDOLPH. MOHAIR GOATS MORE MOHAIR COATS TODAY THAN IN MORE MOHAIR PRODUCED TODAY THAN IN ( Ststi on US OeptafAgri Figures-S- ix boding States) f clean-:n- 3.605,000 TF YOU are accustomed to think of A the angora goat as one of those queer furrin animules that you would have to go abroad to see in his native habitat, It may come with surprise to learn that there are more angora goats right here in the United States than In any other country In the world, and that consequently this country leads the world in its output of mohair, the fleece of the angora. The year 49 which saw the great gold rush to California also was the occasion for the entry of nine inconspicuous immigrants, the first angora goats to be brought into this country. Evidently they found their surroundings congenial, for they flourished and multiplied and sent for a lot of their relatives to join them, until now there are fully three and a half million of these useful creatures here, clearing 1920 1920 off the brush land, increasing grain yield, and at the same time producing a total clip of 17,000,000 pounds of mohair yearly. Every state in the Union has at least a few members of the family, but the great bulk is centered in Texas, Arizona, Oregon, New Mexico, California and Missouri. Mohair or angora fleece must not be confused with wool. Mohair is even stronger than wool, very lustrous and, due to its structural difference, much easier than wool to keep clean. Mohair has many uses for clothing, draperies, rugs and other domestic applications but by far its most significant uses are for furniture and automobile upholstering, for which It is made up into a pile fabric called mohair velvet or sometimes velmo for short. Twelve million yards of this fabric are in use in passenger trains today, due to Its extreme durability combined with pleasing appearance and fadeless dyes, while over a hundred million yards, it has been estimated, are on the highways in the form of automobile upholstery. The skin of the angora is used for making gloves, while the meat, called chevon, is much like lamb or mutton. But, of course, by far the most Important use of the angora goat is its mohair fleece which you probably rest on every time you take out your car. to-wl- t: Tbu-mbi- Buried the Bodies. and well known in this vicinity, dropped out of sight early last February. They owned 640 acres of land here. ' Grabbed the Farm. Rannon and his son took possession of the farm the latter part of last February. They explained that they had rented the farm for a year from the Havens, who had gone to Oregon to take over a lumber camp. States Attorney Taylor questioned the youth several times during the last six months. Taylor commenced an investigation of his own when the boy seemed unable to give a proper explanation as to what rent he was paying and to where he was sending the rent money. Finally, a week ago, Taylor arrested Rannon on a charge of having stolen property in his possession. The bodies of the six were found scattered about the farm. The hoy wants to throw himself on the mercy of the court and plead guilty, but States Attorney Taylor states that he will await the arrival of the elder Bannon before he will make plans for a trial. Taylor believes that the father is implicated, at least indirectly. PATENTS 'AND -- TRADE-MARK- S C. A. Snow & Co. Successful Practice since 1875.
